Nawazuddin Siddiqui in and as Manjhi - The Mountain Man-the modern-day Shah Jehan

Bollywood talenthouse Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte (last seen as Vinay Pathak’s wife in Badlapur) have come together for a movie inspired by the life of Dashrath Manjhi, a man from Bihar who, in 22 years, cut through a mountain to create access for his village-folks to the nearest medical facility.

Siddiqui will be seen in the titular role playing Dashrath, a man who loses his beloved wife (played by Apte) to the lack of medical facility in his village, thereby resolving to cut through the mountain, creating the much needed pathway to the nearest medical centre, so that no one else suffers the same cruel fate. Christened by movie’s director Ketan Mehta as poor people’s Shah Jahan, Dashrath Manjhi was also the topic of the first episode of the second season of Satyamev Jayate, the famous Indian talk show hosted by actor Aamir Khan.

The movie has been produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Maya Movies, and NFDC, and would release on 21^st August 2015.
