Believe it or not, the ridiculous Mercedes G500 4x4 that the company showcased as a concept last year might actually be launched as a production vehicle.
Head of Product Planning for Mercedes, Bart Herring has said Mercedes is ‘very close to a good decision’ about the wild, weird, war-ready wagon that it calls the G500 4x4². The monstrosity is very similar to the six-wheeled G63 AMG 6x6 Mercedes built a few years ago.
The production car is expected to get high-clearance portal axles, dual shocks on each corner, fat 37-inch tires, and a track a full foot wider than a regular G-Wagen. That sounds crazy, even on paper.
The engine may not be the same as on the six-wheeled G63 AMG 6x6, but the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 which makes a ‘mere’ 416 BHP.
While the G-Wagen has been by far Mercedes' most popular SUV, its totally unclear why Mercedes continues to make these absurdly powerful vehicles. Much like the AMG G65 that costs $217,900 (over Rs. 1.45 Crores), the G500 4x4² is expected to be costly too.
However, for the rich and crazy, it’s the price you pay to get your hands on what is probably Merc’s most absurdly capable
It’s genuinely outrageous.
