Layne Wolfe, 39, loves Christmas. She's collected decorations from around the world and plans an annual Christmas-themed bar crawl for her friends. Now her Christmas-themed Airbnb pulls in guests from across the country year-round.
In 2016, the New York City-based interior designer purchased a three-bedroom cabin near Lake Placid, New York, for $160,000 as an escape from city life.
"I always put up my decorations early and leave them up until spring," Wolfe said. In 2018, she left her decor up until April — and decided to leave it that way permanently.
Wolfe started renting the cabin on Airbnb in 2020 as a way to cover the property's mortgage and taxes. Thus, the Christmas Cabin was born.
The Christmas Cabin has already hosted proposals, honeymoons, and family weekends for year-round holiday fanatics.
There's international touches sprinkled throughout the home including a banner for Figgy Pudding, the traditional English Christmas dessert, and a nutcracker from a trip to Montenegro.
Her favorite decoration in the cabin is a Santa on the staircase that her mom hand-painted for her over 30 years ago.
Some of Wolfe's favorite spots to buy decorations are Pottery Barn, Amazon, Garnet Hill, and Balsam Hill.

During the summer months, the Christmas Cabin can pull in around $5,000 per month. In November and December, bookings can reach around $9,000, Wolfe shared.
Wolfe's highlights from hosting are the messages guests leave after their stay, reminiscing on the "magic" of a Christmas year-round cabin holiday.
For her next project, Wolfe has her sights set on the rooftop.
She dreams of installing a permanent reindeer and sleigh on top of the cabin and is already talking to contractors about making it a reality.
