  • Rajdhani Express skips Goa halt as COVID count reaches 26
Goa reported 26 active cases after four persons who had travelled to the coastal state from Mumbai via train on Sunday (May 17) tested positive.

After not recording a single Covid-19 case from April 3, Goa has witnessed the surge of 26 active cases since May 14.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said that the samples of the four train passengers tested positive for a TrueNat rapid test and have been sent to the local testing facility for reconfirmation.

According to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, all the 26 cases were "imported" into the state. A large number of cases involve passengers who have travelled by train to the state from Mumbai and Delhi, forcing Sawant to write to the Union Railways Ministry, to stop the Goa halt of the Rajdhani Express which starts from the national capital. Sawant has said that the Union Ministry has accepted his request.

"We have to control those coming in by train. With trucks coming in from red zones, the drivers could test positive. We are working out a detailed strategy to manage the entry of persons coming into Goa efficiently. Because as of now we have no community transmission," he added.

  • 13 bank staff screened after a visit by corona positive customer
Samples of 13 employees of a bank in Hyderabad have been collected and sent for testing after authorities found that a coronavirus positive customer had visited their branch a few days ago for a transaction, officials said on Sunday (May 17).

The employees of a leading public sector bank's branch in the Puranapul area in the Old City were asymptomatic. Still, they were shifted to Nature Cure Hospital late Saturday (May 16) as authorities did not want to take a chance.

Health officials said if any employee tested positive, he or she would be shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment while those who test negative will go for home quarantine for 14 days.

  • Chandigarh reports five new coronavirus cases
After a hiatus of four days, five coronavirus cases in two families were reported in the city on Monday, spiking the total cases to 196.

All the five cases were reported from the packed-to-the-gills Bapu Dham locality from where 127 of the total 196 COVID-19 patients were reported — 64% of the total cases and 89% of active patients.

Three patients were of one family. All five were family contacts of the previous cases and were asymptomatic, a government statement said.

Chandigarh Administrator V.P. Singh Badnore said the full concentration is to prevent the community from the spread in Bapu Dham in Sector 26, which houses nearly 60,000 people, largely economically weaker sections and slum dwellers.

The city has recorded three deaths so far.

  • Delhi Metro extends suspension of services till May 31
Following the extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 31 during which metro train services will remain shut across the nation, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Sunday announced that it would continue to remain shut for commuters till this date.

The DMRC tweeted: "In light of the extension of the lockdown, Metro services will remain closed for commuters till May 31. Our helpline services 155370 shall also not be available. You may reach us at helpline@dmrc.org."

The Delhi government had written to the Centre, urging it to allow the Metro services in the city. However, it has demanded that only employees of the Union and city governments, Central and state PSUs, local bodies/government autonomous bodies, and persons providing essential services be allowed to travel on the production of ID cards and passes. However, the Centre did not allow for the same and barred Metro services across the nation.

The DMRC was ready to resume its services, as and when approved by the Centre. With a network of 389-km across the national capital region, the Delhi Metro had ferried about 60 lakh people per day in February.
