All hail the Goblin Queen of the Emmys red carpet

All hail the Goblin Queen of the Emmys red carpet
  • There was a goblin walking the red carpet at the Emmys.
  • No, really — someone is decked out in a green gown and elaborate goblin prosthetics.

We're calling it now — the best look on the 2024 Emmys red carpet was literal goblin glam. And behind the viridescent body paint was "RuPaul's Drag Race" season 15 alum Princess Poppy.

Viewers were quick to spot a goblin walking the red carpet about 30 minutes into the Emmys red carpet pre-show on E! Network, shortly after host Laverne Cox's interview with "Daisy Jones & The Six" star Riley Keough.

Her skin? Luscious green and laden with warts. Her dress? Form-fitting and verdant. Her hair? Stringy. Her nails? Talons. Her aura? Impeccable.

It's a pretty out-there look for an awards show, where stars tend to sport looks from Dior, Louis Vuitton, or other luxury designers. It's not surprising that this striking look belongs to one of the queens from "RuPaul's Drag Race," which is nominated for the award for outstanding reality competition program.

A consensus quickly emerged on social media that the Goblin Queen — the Glam Goblin? — was none other than season 15 competitor Princess Poppy, despite the fact that she told Out Magazine in May 2023 that she was retiring from drag.

"Princess Poppy un-retired from drag just to end the entire industry. You can't top this," Entertainment Weekly "Drag Race" reporter Joey Nofli tweeted.

Fellow season 15 queen Marcia Marcia Marcia also posted a photo on their Instagram story, tagging Princess Poppy and fellow competitor Jax.

Finally, about two hours into the show, Princess Poppy confirmed that she was indeed the goblin, posting screenshots of media coverage from the event, social-media reactions, photos, and videos. In the post's caption, she listed the credits for her look, and a single goblin emoji.

The Emmys did go in "Drag Race's" favor tonight, as it won the award for outstanding reality program. But past the award, one thing is clear: Drag, and Princess Poppy (who also took the stage with Ru Paul and more "Drag Race" alums), have won the red carpet.

Princess Poppy did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent through Instagram.
