Delhi’s Covid positivity rate hit a 5-month high and is higher than India’s average

• India’s Covid-19 positivity rate touched 7% after a gap of 168 days.
• The national capital’s positivity rate rose to 8.18% on Monday, which is its highest in a month.
• Rajasthan is suddenly witnessing a sudden surge in the number of Covid cases in the past few days.

The Covid-19 positivity rate in India jumped to 7% after a gap of almost 168 days, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. It was at 5.29%, just the day before.

However, the country is witnessing a decline in the number of daily Covid cases. On Tuesday, July 26, around 14,000 cases were reported – a decline of almost 2,000 cases from the day before.

The active caseload in the country stands at 1,47,512 cases or 0.34% of the total cases reported.

The national capital’s positivity rate rose to 8.18% on Monday, which is its highest in a month. This is the third consecutive day that the positivity rate remained above 5% in Delhi.

The number of active cases in the national capital now stands at 2,548 – lower than the 2,696, the day before.

Rajasthan is suddenly witnessing a sudden surge in the number of Covid cases in the past few days. The positivity rate in the state has crossed 7%.

“Infectious diseases increase in monsoon. The increasing cases of Covid infection across the country are also the result of this. After about six months, the daily infection rate (positivity rate) of Covid has crossed 7%. So we all should be careful again,” Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said in a tweet, on Tuesday, July 26.

Gehlot also urged the residents of the state to maintain caution and get the precaution dose. “Be sure to get both the vaccine dose and the booster dose as needed. Use a mask and wash your hands frequently. If you see any symptoms, get a Covid test done,” Gehlot added.

Maharashtra reported a sharp drop in new Covid-19 cases at 785 from 2,015 a day ago. Daily cases are generally low on Mondays as compared to other days due to a significant drop in the number of tests conducted over the weekend.

In the meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) also warned all the country governments and healthcare systems to take steps to curb the spread of infection as the number of new cases worldwide had risen by 30%.
