Odisha warns cancellation of license if hospitals deny service to non-COVID patients
Bhubaneswar, May 2 () The Odisha government hasissued a warning to all hospitals and clinics, particularlythose in the private sector, to ensure essential criticalservices to non-Covid19 patients or face cancellation of theirlicenses, official sources said on Saturday.

It has come to the notice of the authorities that somehospitals in the private sector are hesitating to providecritical services such as dialysis, blood transfusion,chemotherapy and institutional deliveries to their regularpatients, the health and family welfare department said in anorder on Friday.

While a section of these hospitals or clinics areprobably afraid that their employees might come in contactwith a suspected Covid-19 patient, another section has kepttheir facilities closed, the order said adding that severalfacilities are insisting on conducting a Covid-19 test on apatient before providing services.

"This is not acceptable. All private hospitals andclinics are directed that every non-COVID hospitals shouldkeep a designated isolation unit to accommodate critically illsuspected COVID patients until their condition is stabilisedfor transfer to COVID hospital after testing," the order said.

"Non-compliance of the order will be viewed seriouslyand action as per provisions of law, including cancellation ofthe registration of the defaulter hospital/nursing home, willbe initiated without further notice," it added.

The order was issued in the backdrop of the death of aBhubaneswar man who died on April 27 allegedly after beingdenied treatment by private hospitals. AAMNN NN
