Okhla state assembly constituency is a part of the South Delhi parliamentary seat of Delhi. Delhi assembly has 70 seats in total. The present five year ruling term of the state government in Delhi will end on 22 February 2020. Hence all the constituencies of Delhi including Okhla will go for general elections in February 2020 in order to choose the next set of MLAs who will represent all these constituencies in the Delhi assembly and form the next government for the five year term post elections. In total, there are 2,73,464 voters in this constituency. This number comprises 1,66,341 males, 1,07,098 females and 25 third gender electors.
In the last assembly elections held for the Okhla assembly seat, the winner was Amanatullah Khan of AAP who got 104271 votes in the 2015 and became the MLA. The runner up in this election is BJP's Braham Singh. His vote score was 39739. In the 2013 general elections, the winner was INC’s Asif Mohd Khan. He got 50004 votes against the AAP candidate Irfanullah Khan whose score was 23459. The Okhla assembly seat also saw the by polls in 2009. In this election, RJD contestant Asif Mohd Khan won the seat. The runner up was Braham Singh who represented BSP in this election.
Okhla assembly seat has existed since 1977. The seat has so far seen nine elections including the by polls in 2009. In total, INC has won from here four times. JNP won from here once. JD won from here once and RJD bagged this seat two times. AAP grabbed this seat in 2015.
