Palam is a state assembly constituency occurring within the portals of the South Delhi parliamentary constituency. Palam will go for assembly election polls in February 2020 as per the Election Commission of India’s announcement. The present five year term of the Delhi assembly comes to and end on 22 February 2020 and hence all the 70 constituencies of the Delhi Vidhan sabha including Palam will elect their new representatives to the assembly in these elections. The total number of voters in Palam assembly seat is 227081. This figure comprises 124898 men, 102170 women and 13 third gender electors.

The sitting MLA of Palam assembly seat in Delhi Vidhan Sabha is Bhavna Gaur. She is an AAP candidate winning in the 2015 elections with 82637 votes. She defeated the BJP candidate Dharam Dev Solanki who got 51788 votes. Earlier Dharanm Dev Solanki had become the MLA from this constituency four times representing BJP. In 2013 elections, he defeated the AAP candidate Bhavna Gaur scoring 42833 votes. In 2008 elections, he won over the INC candidate Mahender Yadav. In 2003 elections for the Delhi assembly, he overtook INC’s Sumesh by scoring 43521 votes. In 1993 elections, he won the INC contestant Muktyar Singh by scoring 20671 votes.

From 1972 elections, the BJP had won from this seat for times. INC had bagged this seat three times. JNP claimed this seat once way back in 1977. AAP grabbed this seat in 2015 elections. The vote score of 82637 got by AAP candidate Bhavna Gaur in 2015 elections was the highest a candidate contesting from this assembly seat had ever got.
