We know someone who is 80 years old and every Saturday morning sits down in his colony park in Delhi, with a group of oldies to discuss about the new books in town. There are millions of book lovers like him and his book club friends in India who spend a reasonable amount of money on books, novels, comics and more, every month. After Amazon, Kobo (an eReading company from Canada) has stepped into India with an application, line-up of E-readers, a tablet and planned strategy to bring Indian readers on to their platform.

Starting today Kobo will offer over 4 million E-books to Indian readers who would want to use their services. The facility can be availed on the Kobo E-ink readers, which includes Kobo Touch (Rs 7,999), Glo (Rs 10,999) and Aura HD (Rs 13,999). The company has also brought their Android driven colour tablet called the Kobo Arc, which till Diwali is available for Rs 9,999 and afterwards for Rs 11,999. Retail outlets such as Croma, Crossword and WHSmith have already started sales and users can pick a device from any of them.

The 4 year old company seems to have aggressive plans for India and soon wants to bring books in regional languages as well. Most major Indian book publishing houses have partnered with them and all the popular Indian English titles will be available through Kobo. With a company like this coming to India with its heavy artillery and resources to India, the book lovers now get a wider choice of devices and services to choose from. We are hoping the prices of the E-readers will come down further, so that everyone can enjoy a good read on the digital platform.
