ASUS ROG Phone 7 lineup is expected to run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and have up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Asus has announced that its next gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 7, will be unveiled on April 13 in India, the US, and Taiwan. It is anticipated that the Asus ROG Phone 7 will come in at least two variants - the ROG Phone 7 and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, and will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
Although both versions of the ROG Phone 7 are anticipated to utilize the flagship Qualcomm chip, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will likely provide extra functionalities and technologies, such as a distinctive design and a secondary display. The phone is teased to boast a new cooling mechanism for peak performance during extended gaming sessions, leading to better single-core and multi-core CPU and GPU performance than other phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
Asus launched the predecessor of the ROG Phone 7 in July last year, but the company struggled to make it available for purchase until November. The fans seemed quite upset and had to wait without any intimation or concrete details on availability from the brand.
Similarly, before the ROG Phone 6, something similar happened with the availability of the Asus 8Z, which was a fantastic phone that couldn’t sell because of the delay in availability.
Whatever the reason, Asus needs to fix it to reclaim its presence in the smartphone space. Let’s hope the gap between the announcement and availability isn’t as huge to kill the excitement around the device.
The upcoming ASUS ROG Phone 7 series will include two gaming smartphones: the ROG Phone 7 and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
The series will also feature a triple-camera setup on the back, including a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, an 8MP macro sensor, and a 32MP front camera sensor.
The devices will measure 173 x 77 x 10.3mm and weigh 239 grams. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is expected to have 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while the standard model will have 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Both devices will run on Android 13 with a customized ROG UI layer.
Additionally, the series is said to feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate, a 6000mAh battery, and support 65W fast charging.
Regarding pricing, the ROG Phone 7 may have a slightly higher price point than the ROG Phone 6. Based on the pricing of other phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the base model of the ROG Phone 7 might be priced at approximately ₹70,000. On the other hand, the ROG Phone 7 Ultra could become Asus's most expensive phone ever released.
