- Here’s my review of the
HP OMEN 17 that will help you decide whether you should buy the device.
The HP OMEN 17 is a feature-packed laptop and comes with top-of-the-line hardware, including the Intel Core i9-13900HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics.
I have been using the OMEN 17 gaming laptop with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics for a few days now, and here is my detailed review of the latest premium gaming laptop from HP.
The HP OMEN 17 is priced at ₹2,69,990 and is available from HP Online store, OMEN playground stores and HP retail stores across the country.

The HP OMEN 17 looks identical to its predecessor and the company has not made any changes in terms of design. Like its predecessor, the 2023 OMEN 17 looks huge and bulky, something we don’t usually relate a laptop with.
At 2.76 kg, the laptop’s weight is on the higher side when compared to other gaming laptops. The primary reason for this is the large display and the powerful hardware offered with the device.
The OMEN 17 features a traditional all-black OMEN design with the company’s shiny logo in the middle. The lid features a matte black colour design, which is susceptible to fingerprint smudges.
In addition to the laptop being huge, the 330 watts charger is also quite large and offers fast charging support.
The laptop comes with a durable metallic build with sturdy hinges that keep the display stable.
The OMEN 17 comes with an RGB-backlit keyboard and the keys are very responsive, allowing you to game or type without any issues. The trackpad however seemed a bit unresponsive and you would be better off using a mouse.
In terms of ports, the company has offered plenty of ports with the laptop. On the left side, you get the RJ-45 port, a USB Type-A port, a Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1 port, a USB Type-C port and the audio jack. You also get the SD card slot.
On the right side, you get two USB Type-A ports.
The company has equipped the device with ample vents to dissipate the heat.
The display is one of the highlights of the OMEN 17. It comes with a large 17.3-inch Quad HD+ IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 240Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time and 300 nits of brightness, which is good enough for playing indoors.
The resolution and the high refresh rate make it a treat to game on the laptop. It offers crisp and smooth visuals, offering an immersive gaming experience. I played games like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V and Forza Horizon 5 on the laptop, with the device offering the best visuals in each game.
In addition to a large display, the OMEN 17 is also packed with the 13th gen Intel Core i9-13900HX processor coupled with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics.
The laptop is available in a single variant with 32GB DDR5 5600 MHz RAM and a 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD.
I tested the laptop with several games, including Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. The laptop was able to handle these heavy games without any issues at the highest graphics. During extended gaming sessions, the laptop does heat up a little and the fan gets a bit noisy but the heat is manageable. In addition to this, I did not notice any drop in frames.
Coming to the battery, the HP OMEN 17 is equipped with an 83Wh battery. As most gaming laptops, battery is not one of the strong points about the device and I recommend you to avoid gaming without plugging in the device.
The HP OMEN 17 ticks a lot of the right boxes, including a vibrant display and powerful hardware which make it a great option for gamers. However, its bulky design and large charger makes portability difficult. If you are okay with not carrying the laptop with you and plan on playing only at home, the HP OMEN 17 is worth considering.
