Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC in November 2022, but now there are reports that the company is preparing to release its next processor, potentially called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. According to a recent report, the new chipset may be launched ahead of its original schedule, possibly in the final quarter of 2023.

A well-known leaker, Digital Chat Station, recently took to Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site, to reveal that the next Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, earlier than its predecessor did last year. Despite being several months away from launch, the upcoming 8 Gen 3 SoC is anticipated to deliver better performance while consuming less power. A Korean tech forum has posted Geekbench scores of the new SoC, indicating that it will provide roughly 25 percent better CPU performance than the previous 8 Gen 2 SoC.

Expected upgrades on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Although there haven't been any confirmed details or specifications on what improvements Qualcomm is developing, it's certain that the upcoming processor will be built using a 3nm process.

The expected benefits of the new 3nm process include better performance and a significant 35% improvement in energy efficiency, which will have a positive impact on battery life.

It's highly likely that the upcoming chip will feature support for the new Snapdragon Satellite technology, which Qualcomm introduced at CES 2023. This technology enables emergency communication even in the absence of a regular mobile signal and, in the future, will facilitate basic two-way messaging as well.

As we await the release of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, we can speculate about the possible phones that will feature this new chip. Although there are no official announcements, we can make some predictions based on the previous generation of Snapdragon chips that were included in phones such as the Vivo X90 Pro+, OnePlus 11, Xiaomi 13, and Samsung S23 Ultra.

It's highly likely that the successors of these phones will feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Moreover, other smartphone brands such as Motorola, Oppo, and Samsung may also include this chip in their upcoming flagship devices.
