<ul class="summary-list"><li>In 1996, <keyword id="136654" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nintendo">Nintendo</keyword>'s iconic plumber went from two to three dimensions with the launch of "<keyword id="2784227" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Super-Mario-64">Super Mario 64</keyword>" for the <keyword id="1250570" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nintendo-64">Nintendo 64</keyword> game console.</li><li>Over 25 years later, "Super <keyword id="2893996" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="mario-64">Mario 64</keyword>" is considered a <keyword id="6357332" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Gaming">gaming</keyword> classic – and some fans are so dedicated that they've fabricated elaborate conspiracy theories.</li><li>One of the most prominent ones was just proven to be true: Despite not appearing in the game, Mario's brother and partner-in-heroism, <keyword id="367535" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Luigi">Luigi</keyword>, is apparently buried within the game's code.</li><li>Using that code, which was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/software-source-code-leaked-microsoft-nintendo-2020-7">pulled from a massive Nintendo leak</a>, creative fans created an image of what Luigi would've looked like in "Super Mario 64." </li></ul><p>With decades of gaming classics under its belt, Nintendo has inspired legions of dedicated fans – and few are more dedicated than "Super Mario 64" fans.</p><p>Over 25 years after its launch, the Nintendo 64 classic has become a magnet for wild conspiracy theories. These unfounded myths range from the mild (unknown secret levels), to the wild (the game was "stolen" by Nintendo from a British studio). One, however, has stood above all others: The belief that, somewhere hidden within the game, is a way to play as Luigi — Mario's taller, greener little brother. </p><p>The details of the conspiracy are tenuous, involving a star statue in a courtyard with unreadable text that proponents believe says "L is real 2041," in what was taken as a hint. However, nothing ever came of this theory, and there was never any proof that Luigi was in the game.</p><p>Until now, that is, as it turns out that the central pillar of this theory — that Luigi was intended for inclusion in "Super Mario 64" — appears to be proven accurate.</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet blockquote" data-lang="en" data-cards="" data-conversation="">—Nitroid❗  (@Nitroid) <a href="https://twitter.com/mims/statuses/1287545402166845446?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 27, 2020</a></blockquote><p>A <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/software-source-code-leaked-microsoft-nintendo-2020-7">massive leak of source code</a>, which people are calling the "Gigaleak," was posted to the code-sharing site GitLab this week.</p><p>Included in the Gigaleak was a trove of Nintendo code from classic games, one of which was "Super Mario 64." And within that code, fans quickly discovered files related to a tall plumber with a penchant for green clothing over red. </p><p>As fans rapidly pulled images from the code, the reconstruction seen above of Mario's infamous partner, Luigi, was created. </p><p>It was the culmination of years of suspicion, searching, and unshakable belief summed up perfectly in a video shared widely on social media:</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet blockquote" data-lang="en" data-cards="" data-conversation="">—frango  (@FrangusMcDangus) <a href="https://twitter.com/mims/statuses/1287219865451978752?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 26, 2020</a></blockquote><p>Video game source code often contains unused portions of games.</p><p>In the case of "Super Mario 64," the source code contained references to Luigi and a 3D polygonal model of the character. It's unclear why he didn't end up in the game, and Nintendo isn't saying. However, in 2009, legendary Mario creator <a href="https://kotaku.com/mario-64-used-to-have-multiplayer-5412516">Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview the game was originally intended to have multiplayer</a>.</p><p>Nintendo eventually added a playable Luigi — alongside fellow series mainstays Luigi and Wario — into an updated version of "Super Mario 64" for the Nintendo DS, released in 2004, but that didn't stop fans from spending years speculating over why he wasn't included in the original game.</p><p>And with good reason: Before "Super Mario 64" launched in 1996, Luigi was included in every major Super Mario game.</p><p>He became distinct from Mario in "Super Mario Bros. 2," where he ran faster and jumped higher than Mario. He's even earned starring roles in games like "Mario is Missing" and the "Luigi's Mansion" series. In 2013, Nintendo declared it <a href="https://nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/The_Year_of_Luigi#:~:text=Mr.,%22The%20Year%20of%20Luigi%22.">the "Year of Luigi"</a> and released several games where he featured in starring or costarring roles.</p>

<p>Way back in&#xa0;1996, Apple thought it could&#xa0;make a game console.</p><p>Ten&#xa0;months before Steve Jobs came back to Apple, the company collaborated with Japanese toy and video game company Bandai to make the Pippin game machine.&#xa0;It turned out to be a&#xa0;tremendous flop. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/545b7cd569beddfb2d042483-1050-1329/majoras_mask_loz_art.png" border="0" alt="Majoras_Mask_LoZ_Art"><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p></img></div><p></p></div></div>During its <a href="http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/11-05-2014/#/video-1ndirect">Nintendo Direct online event</a> on Wednesday afternoon, Nintendo announced the classic N64 game "The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask" will be remade on the Nintendo 3DS, the company's 3D handheld console.</p>
<p>For those unfamiliar with the game, "Majora's Mask" was by far one of the darker "Zelda" games ever created by Nintendo.</p>
<p>Released in 2000, the story revolves around Link, the hero from the franchise, as he attempts to stop the moon from crashing into his planet in three days' time. To prevent the catastrophe, players must continually send Link back in time to the beginning of the three-day period, complete quests and figure out how to stop the world's destruction before time runs out.</p>
<p>The initial release of "Majora's Mask" sold about 3.36 million copies worldwide. Critics called the game "the finest adventure the Nintendo 64 has to offer," and "one of the most inventive premises in all of gaming."</p>
<p>"As we worked on the remake version, we set out to maintain the original level of challenge, while keeping the game accessible for anyone," Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's president, said in the announcement. "So we also focused on making sure the gameplay experience was as soon as possible."</p>
<p>Nintendo previously remade another "Zelda" classic from the N64 back in 2011, "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time." "Majora's Mask" is the direct follow-up to that game.</p>
<p>The new version of "The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask" will be available for the Nintendo 3DS sometime in the spring, according to Iwata. Check out the trailer below.</p>

The Darkest 'Zelda' Game Ever Made Is Coming To Nintendo's Portable Console

He's known for making off-colour jokes about sex and women, and his <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtuber-logan-paul-ksi-press-conference-boxing-match-manchester2018-7">pre-fight trash talk against Logan Paul</a> hasn't exactly been sportsmanlike. When Business Insider meets him, however, he's surprisingly calm, collected, and polite, shaking hands and taking care to listen to questions.</p><p>Later in the day, the KSI persona would be back on show for the pre-match weigh-in with his opponent. KSI came on-stage wearing a mask of Chloe Bennett, Paul's actress girlfriend. If I was like this [<em>indicates himself as he is, sitting down</em>], people would be asleep.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> How do you gear yourself up to be the KSI on video?</p><p><strong>KSI: </strong>Normally I just... whenever there's a camera I know how to turn it up. Usually - I've been doing this so many years - it's just natural now.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> You're in your early twenties. In a normal world, you would have gone to uni, and you'd have graduated, but clearly that hasn't happened. What would the alternative JJ have done?</p><p><strong>KSI: </strong>I wanted to do computer science. I love my gaming, I wanted to do anything to do with gaming. That's why, with the whole YouTube aspect, I went into that. When I saw that you could make money playing games I thought, 'This is a Godsend.' It's exactly what I wanted to do. My Nintendo DS, every now and then I like a few oldies like the Game Boy, Game Boy Colour, all that.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> I guess you were maybe too young for the N64.</p><p><strong>KSI: </strong>What! I wasn't too young! No! Of course I played the N64. I used to always smash it out. Especially in secondary school, all of us had a dorm and all of us would just play Super Smash Bros or GoldenEye. But...obviously there's lots of better games now.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> Are you a Fortnite fan?</p><p><strong>KSI:</strong> Nah not really. I mean it was cool at first, before everyone knew how to start building, so now it's just you shoot someone and all of a sudden they build a mansion. And then you're like, ok, this sucks.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> You went to school in Berkhamsted. Are you still in touch with your friends there?</p><p><strong>KSI:</strong> One of my best friends, Simon, [Simon Minter, known as Miniminter on YouTube] went to the same school. We've stayed in touch, and we do the same thing now, which is sick. It's kinda hard with what I do, I'm always travelling, I'm always doing something out of the ordinary. They're doing a 9 to 5, so it's hard to keep in touch. Every Christmas, I always go back to my parents' to see them, they live around there. So I always just play football with them, and we go out as well. It's kind of like a reunion, seeing what's going on. It always seems like I'm doing the crazy stuff.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> What has YouTube fame let you do that you couldn't have otherwise done?</p><p><strong>KSI:</strong> It has allowed me to do whatever I want, really. Make a career out of anything. If I went down the computer science route, I'd never be here. I feel like with YouTube, it's a core that lets you bounce off into various things whether it's movies or music or boxing, anything. I called him out as a joke on Instagram, saying I'd fight the winner - he was fighting his mate - and then it just blew up from there.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> This has all been hugely successful for you. Do you feel the pressure to keep views up by doing really crazy things?</p><p><strong>KSI:</strong> No. I used to feel like that, but that's the worst way to go about things. For me, it didn't make me happy. I wasn't happy just thinking 'Oh, I need to do everything for views.' Because then it made me do things I didn't actually enjoy. Now I don't care about views, I never look at [social media statistics site] SocialBlade, I never look at how many views or even the amount of money I'm getting, I hardly look at that. It's all about making sure I'm doing what I enjoy doing and making sure I'm happy. That's the most important thing. Happiness is number one.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> But you're still hoping for a decent chunk of change out of this fight, no?</p><p><strong>KSI:</strong> I've got to make sure my whole team eats good as well.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> After this series of matches, would you challenge another YouTuber?</p><p><strong>KSI:</strong> I'd want to go pro. So, there would be no headgear. It would be me fighting someone who is a professional boxer. That would be the biggest test for me. Just a cool thing to do, just to show people I used to be a FIFA gaming YouTuber, but now I can go pro and beat a professional boxer. I used to just be like a skinny dweeby kid, and now I'm doing this.</p><p><strong>BI:</strong> What are you thinking for the long term?</p><p><strong>KSI:</strong> I'm not thinking about it too much. I guess I'm trying to enjoy the moment. Like the whole boxing thing, my end goal is to go professional and go from there. Music has always been a big thing, I'd love to go into acting, and see what I can do there. It also set the standard for game consoles for years to come: a box that connects to your TV, with a straightforward gamepad attached.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57e43414077dcc5e1a8b68ea-1500/supermariojumping.jpg" alt="Super Mario" data-mce-source="Nintendo"><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p></img></div><p></p></div></div><p>Nintendo's follow-up, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, took the mold set by the original NES and expanded it: more buttons on the gamepad, prettier graphics, and a slightly different console design. It was a major success, but faced competition from the likes of Sega's Genesis console.&#xa0;</p><p>Then, with the Nintendo 64 and GameCube, Nintendo started branching out. Rather than traditional gamepads, the N64 added a thumbstick (now a standard) and the GameCube had a bizarre gamepad. The console still occupies a soft spot in the hearts of millions of people all over the world, despite being a sales failure compared with the competition (Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's first Xbox).</p><p>Everything changed with the Wii.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5812337f362ca486238b516d-1700/nintendo-wii.jpg" alt="nintendo wii" data-mce-source="Reuters/Yuriko Nakao"><p class="source"><span>Reuters/Yuriko Nakao</span></p></img></div><p></p></div></div><p>The focus was on intuitive controls, using an ultra-simple motion gamepad. Instead of pushing buttons, you could swing the remote like a tennis racket, or a baseball bat, or... you get the point.</p><p>Sure, the Wii remote could also be turned on its side and used (<em>sort of</em>) like a traditional gamepad, but that was far from standard. And sure, there was a separately sold "Classic Controller" that resembled a more normal controller - again, not the standard. Regardless, the Wii was a genuine phenomenon; it's the third highest-selling game console Nintendo's ever made, behind the original Game Boy and the Nintendo DS.</p><p>Nintendo doubled down on this high risk/high reward approach in its follow-up console, the Wii U. Except this time it didn't work.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/58123d94b28a64c9018b5606-800/nintendosales_wiivswiiu_arrows.jpg" alt="Nintendo sales comparison" data-mce-source="Nintendo"><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p></img></div><p></p></div></div><p>The Wii U's big selling point was a tablet controller (seen above).</p><p>It wasn't intuitive to use, and it wasn't a well-designed tablet. It felt downright toy-like compared to stuff like Apple's iPad, plus it suffered from a terrible battery life. The Wii U also had a tremendously confusing name. "Is this an add-on for the Wii?" was a question on the minds of millions, and Nintendo did a poor job of providing a clear answer.</p><p>With Nintendo Switch - the new console from Nintendo that's set to launch in March 2017 - Nintendo's making a major return to form.&#xa0;</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/580a1c54c5240220008b60de-2400/nintendoswitch_bothways.jpg" alt="Nintendo Switch" data-mce-source="Nintendo"><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p><p class="caption">The Switch is both a home game console (left) and a portable game console (right), all in one!</p></img></div><p></p></div></div><p>You see that setup on the left? That's the home console version of the Nintendo Switch. You see the gamepad next to it? This stuff looks downright <em>normal</em>, even. That concept - "We're making a normal game console!" - was front-and-center in Nintendo's debut video.</p><p>It highlighted how you could take the console on-the-go, of course, but it showed people doing typical video game stuff: sitting on a couch playing a game on the living room TV, or using the handheld while in a plane.</p><p>See for yourself:</p><p><div><iframe width="800" height="450" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/f5uik5fgIaI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div></p><p>You'll notice that the core concept - play the same games at home and wherever else you want - is simple. No confusing gamepad to explain. No motion gimmicks. No talk of "software partners" or marketing strategy. Just a very straightforward pitch to folks who like Nintendo, who like video games, or both.&#xa0;</p><p>And that's incredibly smart. Nintendo's strength isn't hardware gimmicks, or processing power - it's creativity. Simply put: People buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games. <p>But Apple's tactics aren't an anamoly.&#xa0;<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">At least 27 million people across the globe are enslaved. Earlier this year, I learned 43 of them work for me, making products most of us daily.</span></p>
<p>In collaboration with the U.S. State Department,&#xa0;<a href="https://madeinafreeworld.com/about_us">Made In A Free World</a>, a company dedicated to raising awareness about global servitude, launched <a href="http://slaveryfootprint.org/">Slavery Footprint</a> - an interactive website that reveals how you personally contribute to the tragic phenomenon.&#xa0;<span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"><br /></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">After answering questions about my location, food consumption, and technology use, among other lifestyle choices, I learned that my actions forced 43 people to work for me without pay or the opportunity to stop.&#xa0;</span></p>
<p>First of all, I own an absurd amount of jewelry. The website made that clear.&#xa0;</p>

<p>But I never knew that rubies pose an equally evil threat. The origin of Burma's second-largest import, the government or army-controlled ruby mines commonly run off of forced labor, according to the Made In A Free World site. Silver mining has a tarnished history, too.&#xa0;</p>
<p>My next-biggest contribution to the slave trade appeared to be my beauty regimen.&#xa0;<span>I don't even think I use that many products or wear heavy makeup. <p>Okay, so no more hot food and video games, right? But boycotting can actually worsen the situation, according to <a href="http://www.antislavery.org/english/">antislavery.org</a>. If consumers stopped buying these products, the lack of business could undermine already dismal economies, forcing countries deeper into poverty, one of the main causes of slavery.&#xa0;</p>
<p><span>While the website doesn't reveal its algorithm for determining slaves per capita, focusing on the numbers misses the point. Slavery creates products that most of us blindly use everyday. By increasing awareness, projects like Slavery Footprint encourage consumers to demand transparency from retailers.</span></p>
<p><span>Thankfully, the&#xa0;U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission adopted a rule, which took effect in May 2014, requiring companies to trace and report many of their raw materials' origins, <a href="http://qz.com/136664/there-could-be-slaves-in-the-supply-chain-of-your-chocolate-smartphone-and-sushi/">Quartz reported</a>.&#xa0;</span></p>

<p>I own a Mac computer, on which I use Microsoft Office nearly everyday. My roommate and I regularly play N64 on lazy Saturdays. And General Electric manufactured my microwave. </p>
<p>Okay, so no more hot food and video games, right? But boycotting can actually worsen the situation, according to <a href="http://www.antislavery.org/english/">antislavery.org</a>. If consumers stopped buying these products, the lack of business could undermine already dismal economies, forcing countries deeper into poverty, one of the main causes of slavery. </p>
<p><span>While the website doesn't reveal its algorithm for determining slaves per capita, focusing on the numbers misses the point. Slavery creates products that most of us blindly use everyday. By increasing awareness, projects like Slavery Footprint encourage consumers to demand transparency from retailers.</span></p>
<p><span>Thankfully, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission adopted a rule, which took effect in May 2014, requiring companies to trace and report many of their raw materials' origins, <a href="http://qz.com/136664/there-could-be-slaves-in-the-supply-chain-of-your-chocolate-smartphone-and-sushi/">Quartz reported</a>. </span></p>
<p><span>But unless Apple and other retailers engage in fair-trade practices across the board, my 43 slaves will remain in servitude.</span></p>

43 Slaves Work For Me

<p>Nintendo is considered the "Disney of video games" by millions of people. Iconic characters like Super Mario and Donkey Kong are instantly recognizable by children and adults the world over, just like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. </p><p>But that comparison misses a fundamental piece of Nintendo's history: games made by companies other than Nintendo.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/589b31ba6e09a8aa238b5b5d-1024/sf2snes.jpg" alt="Street Fighter II" data-mce-source="Capcom" /><p class="source"><span>Capcom</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>If you're like me and grew up playing Nintendo game consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super NES, Nintendo 64 and GameCube, you likely have fond memories of characters like Chun-Li and Ken from the "Street Fighter" franchise. </p><p>Or maybe for you it was "Resident Evil 4" - an exclusive, believe it or not, back on the GameCube. It's hard to imagine now, but Nintendo was once known for more than its own games. And what sells game consoles? Games! The Switch launches on March 3, 2017.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The Wii U is the worst-selling home console Nintendo's ever made, and it's not because Nintendo didn't make great games for it.</p><ul><li>"Mario Kart 8" is arguably the best "Mario Kart" game ever made.</li><li>"Super Mario 3D World" is a true delight, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/best-super-mario-games-2016-12">one of the best Mario games in history</a>.</li><li>"Super Mario Maker" is an entirely new concept from Nintendo, which enables players to create their own "Super Mario" levels from scratch. Incredible!</li></ul><p>Despite all these great games from Nintendo (and many more that I didn't mention), the Wii U tanked.</p><p>While there are many reasons that the Wii U sold so poorly, prime among them is a complete lack of support from so-called "third-party" developers - game developers <em>other than</em> Nintendo. If you wanted to play the latest "Call of Duty" game in the last decade, there was no way to do that on Nintendo's consoles. That same statement applies to other major franchises, from "Grand Theft Auto" to "Mass Effect" to "Assassin's Creed." Since the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo consoles have existed solely to play Nintendo-made games.</p><p>And Nintendo's next console, the Switch, looks to be in the same situation.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/587a4dacf10a9a51098b8586-1440/screen shot 2017-01-14 at 105520 am.png" alt="Super Mario Odyssey" data-mce-source="Nintendo" /><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p><p class="caption">"Super Mario Odyssey" for the Nintendo Switch looks amazing, but is it enough on its own to sell the $300 Switch?</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Thus far, there is a single "big" game launching alongside the Switch: "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." It's a gorgeous new entry in the long-running "Legend of Zelda" series (made by Nintendo, of course), which puts players in the role of an elfin boy named Link who's often tasked with rescuing a princess named Zelda. </p><p>Outside of that game, though? It's slim pickings.</p><p>And that's a real problem when Nintendo's competition, Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4, have enormous game libraries, cost less, and are more powerful. Nintendo realizes this, of course, as do analysts that cover the video game industry.</p><p>During <a href="https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2017/170207e.pdf">a recent investor Q&amp;A</a>, the question of third-party support for the Switch came up. Nintendo director Shinya Takahashi offered an answer that doesn't exactly instill confidence:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Nintendo will keep on creating unique software. By doing so, I believe we will encourage third-party developers to create a number of quality software titles for Nintendo Switch."</p><p><em>Right</em>.</p><p>The argument from Nintendo largely boils down to, "We'll lead by example, and hopefully third-party developers will follow our lead." It's a nice sentiment, but recent history indicates that it's unlikely to happen - the laundry list of excellent games made by Nintendo on the Wii U didn't spur third-parties to make games for the Wii U. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/580a1c54c5240220008b60de-2400/nintendoswitchbothways.jpg" alt="Nintendo Switch" data-mce-source="Nintendo" /><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p><p class="caption">The gimmick with the Switch is its a home console and portable console at the same time. It can be docked at home for TV play, and taken on-the-go as a handheld.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>More problematically, the Switch simply isn't as powerful as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.</p><p>While those consoles aren't identical, they share enough in common that game developers can make games for both relatively easily. When it comes to the Switch, however, it's different enough that blockbusters like, say, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/red-dead-redemption-2-photos-2016-10">the next "Red Dead Redemption" game</a>, aren't possible. The console simply can't power the same game that runs on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 - and that's going to keep the next "Call of Duty" from the Switch. </p><p>Apply that same logic to the next "Mass Effect," the next "Assassin's Creed," the next [insert your favorite third-party blockbuster franchise here].</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/582494c246e27a2e008b5e64-1440/screen shot 2016-11-10 at 103902 am.png" alt="Mass Effect: Andromeda" data-mce-source="BioWare / EA" /><p class="source"><span>BioWare / EA</span></p><p class="caption">"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is heading to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on March 21 - just a few weeks after the Switch launches.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>To be clear, there are some games from third-party software-makers coming to the Switch.</p><p>They're mostly games from years ago, re-released on the Switch. That includes "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," which originally launched in 2011, and "Disgaea 5," which originally launched in 2015.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5808ce668d83b4d8008b5af1-1920/screen shot 2016-10-20 at 100147 am.png" alt="Nintendo Switch" data-mce-source="Nintendo" /><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p><p class="caption">In the initial Switch reveal, a man plays "Skyrim" on the console.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>These are not the type of third-party games that I'm referring to above - the "Assassin's Creeds" and "Call of Dutys" and "Fallouts" of the world are what matters nowadays when it comes to third-party support. If you're in the market for a new game console - and you're not a crazy person like me, who buys all of the game consoles regardless of logic - you're looking for <strong>one</strong> to serve as many of your wants as possible.</p><p>If you're into Nintendo games and <em>only</em> Nintendo games, it makes sense to buy something like the Switch (though I'd still argue <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/should-i-buy-nintendo-switch-2017-2">you should wait until the holiday season</a>). </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5879130eee14b6a27b8b525f-2400/screen shot 2017-01-13 at 115328 am.png" alt="nintendo switch" data-mce-source="Nintendo" /><p class="source"><span>Nintendo</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>It's entirely possible that Nintendo's got more to reveal about the Switch that will trump its complete lack of third-party support.</p><p>The new console's version of the long-running "Virtual Console" service, which offers access to Nintendo's incredible vault of games from past consoles, could prove to be a game-changer. If Nintendo can spin the nostalgic grab of its game library into, say, a subscription service - Netflix-style - that could be <em>huge</em>. As of right now, there's no indication that such a thing is happening.</p><p>Otherwise, if you're one of the millions of people who want a game console that does more than play Nintendo's own games, the Switch is a hard sell.
