<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Social unrest has simmered in Venezuela for the last few years, at times breaking out in widespread protests, and tensions have mounted this year, as an opposition-led legislature leads an <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-opposition-warns-unrest-horizon-205123148.html" target="_blank">effort to recall</a> President Nicolas Maduro.</p><p>But a protest that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">broke out</a> near the presidential palace in Caracas on Thursday indicates that the strife has reached a segment of the country critical to the government's popular support.</p><p>A group of Venezuelans waiting in line at a supermarket in Caracas made a run for Miraflores, the presidential palace, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">after they saw</a> what appeared to be people affiliated with the government taking food they had been waiting for hours in the heat to buy.</p><p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">According</a> to The Associated Press, over 100 people ran down the city's main street, chanting "No more talk. We want food," before encountering riot police less than six blocks from Miraflores.</p><p>The protesters clashed with the police, striking their shields, as other Venezuelans <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">leaned out of windows</a> to yell insults at police and bang pots. Police eventually deployed tear gas against the demonstrators.</p><p>"We have needs, too. We all need to eat," Jose Lopez, a 23-year-old, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">told</a> the AP. Lopez said he and other demonstrators were neither supporters nor opponents of the government, "just people trying to feed themselves."</p><p>Downtown Caracas, the area around the presidential palace, is "<span>territorio chavista," or government-supporter</span> territory, the government has <a href="http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=2413554&amp;CategoryId=10717" target="_blank">said</a>. Antigovernment protests are rare in that area, the Latin America Herald Tribune <a href="http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=2413554&amp;CategoryId=10717" target="_blank">noted</a>. The AP <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">called</a> the demonstration a "rare, apparently spontaneous outburst of anger."</p><p><div></div></p><p>"CARACAS DISTURBANCES  Looting attempts reported at [Avenue] Urdaneta, San Jose and La Candelaria. #WeWantFood," this tweet reads in English.</p><p>"I'm protesting because we're tired of the lines, of not finding products," another protester, 21-year-old Francis Marcano, <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-security-forces-fire-tear-gas-anti-maduro-182550869.html?ref=gs" target="_blank">told</a> AFP.</p><p>Jorge Rodriguez, the mayor of Caracas and ally of President Maduro, said the protests was initiated by black-market vendors, who resell scarce goods at what he called "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">blood prices</a>." He said the government was working to put them out of business. <span>Chuo Torrealba, the opposition leader of the National Assembly, <a href="http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=2413554&amp;CategoryId=10717" target="_blank">said</a> the protests were "<span>a country acting in self <keyword id="6354810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Defense">defense</keyword>."</span></span></p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Venezuela - which has suffered under rolling power blackouts, rampant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/venezuela-economic-food-crisis-meals-2016-4" target="_blank">shortages of food</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/venezuela-hospital-public-health-emergency-2016-5" target="_blank">medicine</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/caracas-yikes" target="_blank">widespread violence</a>, and lacking <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/drought-floods-and-shortages-in-venezuela-2016-4" target="_blank">access to running water</a> - has seen "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">near-daily spontaneous</a>" protests over the last few weeks, according to the AP.</p><p>Looting and attempted looting incidents have also risen this year, from about 20 incidents in January to more than 70 in May, <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-01/venezuelan-credit-dashboard-short-term-default-concerns-ease" target="_blank">according</a> to a local nongovernment organization.</p><p>But Thursday's protests seem to indicate that the government is losing support among poor residents in and around the capital - people it has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">long relied on</a> for support. The opposition's formal, organized marches tend to attract middle-class Venezuelans, and <a href="http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=2413554&amp;CategoryId=10717" target="_blank">tend to take place</a> in middle-class areas of the city.</p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span>Thursday's protests in the streets near Miraflores appeared to be driven by a different group - poor Caraqueños, generally considered to be governments supporters, who had <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-venezuela-police-repel-rare-protest-near-presidential-palace-2016-6" target="_blank">spent hours waiting</a> to buy food at subsidized prices.</span></p><p><span>The lines, which have become commonplace in Venezuela in recent years as the country's economic crisis inhibits the government's ability to import food, exposes poor Venezuelans not only to heat and hunger, but also makes them "<span>easier targets for violence," Alejandro Velasco, a professor at New York University, told Business Insider in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/caracas-yikes" target="_blank">an interview earlier this year about violence in Caracas</a>.</span></span></p><p><span><span>Shops closed in the capital Thursday as police clashed with protesters, and opposition leaders, who are <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-opposition-warns-unrest-horizon-205123148.html" target="_blank">waiting</a> on the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to rule on signatures gathered in support of a presidential recall referendum, have warned that Venezuela "<a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-opposition-warns-unrest-horizon-205123148.html" target="_blank">faces an explosion of unrest</a><span>" if the referendum doesn't happen this year.</span></span></span></p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div><p><span><span>Recall-referendum backers gathered nearly <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-opposition-warns-unrest-horizon-205123148.html" target="_blank">2 million</a> signatures, well more than the roughly 200,000 needed to initiate the process. </span></span><span><span>Despite that response, the opposition has had <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-opposition-warns-unrest-horizon-205123148.html" target="_blank">trouble</a> rallying its supporters, and its legislative efforts have been stymied by government resistance.</span></span></p><p><span><span>Moreover, the referendum-approval process is complex, and political analysts have <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-opposition-warns-unrest-horizon-205123148.html" target="_blank">told</a> AFP that the CNE could delay a referendum until next year. Venezuela's political crisis is reaching a breaking point

<p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>20th Century Fox</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>"<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/dawn-of-the-planet-of-the-apes">Dawn of the Planet of the Apes</a>" is out in theaters this weekend. </p>
<p class="p1">The film is the sequel to 2011's reboot which featured James Franco. This time around <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, and Jason Clarke ("Zero Dark Thirty") join a new cast in what is surprisingly sounding like one of the better summer movies in a pretty lackluster season.</span></p>
<p class="p1">Currently, the movie sits at at <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dawn_of_the_planet_of_the_apes/">92% on Rotten Tomatoes</a>. It's not a feat many summer blockbusters have accomplished joining "<a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/x_men_days_of_future_past/">X-Men: Days of Future Past</a>" and "<a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/edge_of_tomorrow/">Edge of Tomorrow</a>."</p>
<p class="p1">"Apes" is expected to make <a href="http://www.boxoffice.com/statistics/movies/rise-of-the-apes-2011?q=apes">at least $50 million this weekend</a> matching the amount of its predecessor. The 20th Century Fox movie cost an <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=dawnoftheapes.htm">estimated $170 million</a> to make.</p>
<p class="p1">And while the film isn't being heralded by everyone as an overall masterpiece, there is one <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">overwhelmingly positive reason to go out to see the film.</span></p>
<p><span>Critics are absolutely entranced by motion-capture wizard Andy Serkis and the apes on screen. </span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFrWoDw-k54">20th Century Fox/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p>

Oldman nearly pops a hernia from hamming it up so hard, and Clarke's melancholy eyes are so perpetually moist in his admiration of the apes, you want to offer a tissue."</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">However, if you're to <a href="http://nypost.com/2014/07/10/newest-planet-of-the-apes-easily-the-best-of-the-franchise/">believe the New York Post</a>, you would think it's one of the best movies you'll ever see.</span></p>
<p class="p1" style="padding-left: 30px;">"The eighth "Planet of the Apes" movie is easily the best, suspenseful and scary and cured of the silliness that infused all previous iterations, even the 1968 original - a fun kids' movie oddly anointed a classic when those kids grew up while retaining their childish tastes."</p>

"If you start drinking too much as a matter of routine, it can harm you in terms of long term health. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In short, excess booze consumption over time can lead to liver disease, up your risk for several cancers and heart problems, and tank your immune system, <a href="https://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/Hangovers/beyondHangovers.htm">per the NIH</a>. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you are inclined to drink, do it moderately: That's no more than one drink a day for women and two for men, <a href="http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/alcohol/art-20044551">according to the Mayo Clinic</a>. </span></p><h3>2. The risks of tobacco are also well known, but this still bears repeating: Smoking can cause cancer almost anywhere in the body and messes with fertility, <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/health_effects/effects_cig_smoking/">among many other ill effects</a>. </p><p>"Making wise choices about recreational exposures to potentially toxic substances is absolutely at the top of the list for this age group," Katz said. </p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sometimes, though, exposure to drugs isn't recreational: A lot of people get <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/drugoverdose/opioids/prescribed.html">prescriptions for painkillers</a> like Oxycodone after surgeries or injuries. (And you don't need us to tell you <a href="http://www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/importance_of_sleep_and_health">how important sleep is</a>.)</p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"It's not just about being able to fall asleep and stay asleep," <a href="https://www.canyonranch.com/lenox/overview/our-experts/cynthia-geyer-m-d/">Cindy Geyer, MD</a>, medical director at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts told INSIDER. "It also influences your hunger. A lot of studies are showing that people who are sleep deprived tend to have higher [levels of] hunger hormones. They're less able to use their logical brain to resist food cues that are in their face all the time. So it plays a huge role with weight."</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Both Geyer and Rifai recommended <a href="https://justgetflux.com/">apps</a> that filter out some of the blue light emitted by your screens. And remember to give your eyes breaks. Luckily, there's a cheap way to reduce your risk of heart disease and other heart health problems, according to <a href="http://andybellatti.com/">dietitian Andy Bellatti</a>: Eat better. </p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"A lot of times, when people start having cardiac issues - even if it's high triglycerides or cholesterol problems or blood pressure issues - a lot of effects happen in your 30s and 40s but they're caused by what you did decades before," Bellatti told INSIDER. "Your 20s are a really good time to start lowering your risk."</span></p><p>You can start by getting more leafy greens and fiber (especially in the form of beans or legumes) and making sure you're eating omega-3 fatty acids. They're found in seafood, sea vegetables, flax seed, walnuts, and chia seeds, and they're known to protect heart health in several ways, per the <a href="http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/HealthyLiving/HealthyEating/HealthyDietGoals/Fish-and-Omega-3-Fatty-Acids_UCM_303248_Article.jsp#.WHaDBbYrKi4">American Heart Association</a>. </p><p>Next, try to start limiting <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-are-the-health-effects-of-salt-2016-6">excess sodium</a> and sugar. </p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Added sugar is problematic for your arteries and for your heart," Bellatti said. "In your 20s, I would especially get away from any kind of liquid source of sugar. That includes not just soda but also juice - it's concentrated sugar and there's no fiber. T</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">hat also includes what I call dessert coffees. A Frappuccino is not a coffee."</span></p><p><a href="http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2015/sugar-guideline/en/">The World Health Organization recommends</a> limiting added sugar intake to roughly 25 grams (or 6 teaspoons) per day. For sodium, <a href="https://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/HighBloodPressure/PreventionTreatmentofHighBloodPressure/Shaking-the-Salt-Habit_UCM_303241_Article.jsp">stick to 2300 mg</a> (about 1 teaspoon of table salt) a day. </p><h3>6. Treat it like the garnish you sprinkle on every meal, all day long. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Move about whenever you can. Can you have a standing or walking meeting? Great. You parked further away? Yes, it counts. If you can find stairs, embrace them. You're on the 20th floor? You don't have to take all 20 floors, but make a habit to get off on the 17th floor and build up from there," he said. "Don't discount any type of physical activity."</span></p><h3>7. Take research done by Dr. Brian Wansink at Cornell University's Food and Brand Lab: He and his team <a href="http://foodpsychology.cornell.edu/discoveries/20-lb-cereal-box">studied real people's kitchens</a> and found that women who kept a bottle of soda on the counter weighed<span> 24 to 26 pounds more</span> than neighbors who didn't. But women who had a fruit bowl on the counter weighed 13 pounds <em>less</em> than neighbors who didn't.</p><p>The bottom line: Don't keep indulgences in your home and expect that you'll be able to resist them using willpower alone.</p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Make the default choice the healthy choice," Rifai said. "Of course, [have] the occasional indulgence here and there as you happen to run across it or crave it. But don't have it actually sitting there in front of you in the house."</span></p><h3>8. There is variation, colour, and uniqueness in <keyword id="6355784" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="death">death</keyword> that indoor pollution brings with it. Things that you have fallen in love with and think you cannot live without can sometimes enter your <keyword id="6360041" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="life">life</keyword> to take it… and this isn’t a hyperbole. Look at perfumes, hair sprays, furniture polish, glues, air fresheners, moth repellents, wood preservatives synthetic materials for building and furnishing and you’ll know what I am talking about. Then there is use of chemical products, pesticides, and household care products that help you transform your home into a swachch home but certainly not a safe home. These are all modern day symbols of the immortal art of Da Vinci as our print and AV ads would want us to believe, but they inch us closer to death in more than one way.<br />
 <br /> You taste, touch, or inhale and you’ll know what I mean when I call them the <keyword id="2750177" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Da-Vinci-of-death">Da Vinci of death</keyword>. ‘Aha!’ said my thoughts, ‘so you don’t think outdoor pollution is as bad as the three you’ve mentioned.’<br />

‘I didn’t say that, did I?’ I said, ‘but I must admit that indoor pollution can induce infections, initiate lung cancer, and even pulmonary diseases like asthma.’ My thoughts then asked me to choose five Bollywood icons and guess how they would react to this simple question: ‘Do you fear indoor pollution?’<br />

So, there I was sitting on an inexpensive chair in my sparsely decorated home and zipping over to people like Alia Bhatt, Amjad Khan or Gabbar, Sunny Leone, SRK, and Amitabh Bachchan to hear the famous actors say something in their own way.<br />

Well, Alia Bhatt asked me to repeat the question and then clapped her hands and said, ‘I don’t fear anything but do send me an invite for the event.’<br />
 <br />
‘Event?’ I asked, confused.<br />
 <br />
‘Well yes, you did mention pollution and indoor… remember?’ said Alia, cocking her head, smiling, and adding, ‘I think you’re talking about an indoor event and if it is like that AIB Roast, it is going to be fun. Such events must be purified by smiles.’ Well, so that was a rather short interview with Alia and she wasn’t really wrong… we need to begin with a confident smile before we take any action against indoor pollution. Right?<br />

Gabbar was in his elements when I met and simply walked up and down the room before asking, ‘<em>Kitne pollution hain</em>?’<br />

I said, ‘<em>Sardar</em><em>, ek… sirf indoor pollution hai</em>.’<br />

‘<em>Toh</em><em> fir darr kaisa</em>?’ Gabbar roared, ‘<em>mera</em><em> naam le lo aur phir sau saal tak pollushun kuch nahin karega</em>!’<br />

I’m sure what Gabbar was really trying to tell me was that no pollutant ever exists without another killer instinct being born. Just search for this solution and indoor pollution will be easy to counter.<br />

I found myself with Sunny Leone and she just fluttered her eye-lids and coo-ed, ‘Well, lots of women call me an indoor pollution, and I know I’m deadly. Fear means nothing if you have your own action plan.’<br />

That’s it… I murmured and thanked her because she had clearly told me that only a well-defined and technologically sound action plan would help.<br />
 <br />
So, I then hopped over to SRK who just ‘humph-ed and hurr-ed! me aside and then taking off his shirt to show me some flabby abs, said, ‘I don’t fear no one. Indoor or outdoor. Poll or no poll. I shun them all. I have to rush to make another flop… bye!’ Well, I interpret this scurried answer as a warning that indoor pollution isn’t something that must be allowed to stay on and cause all those headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion bouts, nausea, and fatigue… just act fast! Speed is of essence. Obviously then, indoor pollution must not be your guest for life… it could be devastating indeed!<br />

When I asked Sr Bachchan the same question, he replied, ‘Babu ji would have quoted these lines from one of his poems.’ And then he recited two lines before leaving me with my thoughts.<br />

And Amitabh too had hit the nail in his own special way… and the lines did seem to talk so favourably about the unexpected losses on the other side, that is, if you crossed over to times of severe indoor pollution. The beauty of a great poem is that it interprets every situation the best way.<br />

So yes, indoor pollution is indeed something that even the Bollywood icons acknowledged in a different manner… and we ordinary mortals must not really overlook the hazards that it poses.<br />

We need to be aware of the issues surrounding indoor pollution… and even other forms of pollution, of course. I mention the indoor form because most of us tend to spend a lot of time indoors and so cannot afford to let it destroy our lives. And, by the way, did I mention that pollutants exist in micron sizes so you cannot actually pick them up and put them in a recycle bag. These micro-sized monsters need specialised busters… though you can reduce your exposure to pollutants if you know what to do in certain cases.<br />

It will be helpful to know that broken CFLs releases mercury, a neurotoxin in the air… so the best action is to simply open the windows and let fresh air come and clear the environment.<br />

Your gadgets have plastic parts… and plastics made with polyvinyl chloride emit phthalates that may lead to hormonal abnormalities and reproductive problems. Plastics also release polybrominated diphenyl ethers, which are flame-retardant chemicals known to cause neurobehavioral changes. So what does one do? Simple. Encourage adequate ventilation until the chemical odour goes away. Be regular in vacuuming around computers, printers, and televisions.<br />

Even glues and adhesives aren’t as virtuous as they seem with their relationship with acetone or methyl ethyl ketone that irritates eyes and affects the nervous system. Kitchen with their platoon of stoves, heaters, and fireplaces can have an abundance of carbon monoxide that can cause headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and even death in the absence of proper ventilation. Nitrogen dioxides and other particulates, doctors say, can cause respiratory disorders and inflammation of the eyes, nose, and throat.<br />
