Amazon and Google remove listings for firearm accessories following 2 mass shootings in the US

Amazon and Google recently removed product listings for shotgun rounds and a rifle magazine following two mass shootings that occurred in the United States just days earlier, according to The Washington Post.

The two online vendors apparently offered gun-related products as recently as Monday despite the fact that doing so violates their own policies, the report indicates. Google's Shopping website is said to have included a listing for shotgun rounds like the Hornaday Critical Defense set, while Amazon offered a listing for a magazine attachment for rifles, as the Post reported.

"Our hearts go out to the victims of gun violence," a Google spokesperson said in a statement to Business Insider. "The sale of weapons, guns, and certain gun parts is strictly prohibited on Google Shopping. As soon as we found policy-violating results, we removed them and are working to prevent these instances from reoccurring."

"All sellers are required to follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account," an Amazon spokesperson said in a comment to Business Insider. "The product in question has been removed."

The discovery and removal of these items came in the wake of two mass shootings that occurred over the weekend. Twenty-two people were killed in a mass shooting that took place on El Paso, Texas, while a shooting in Dayton, Ohio resulted in nine deaths.

The policies and agreements listed on Amazon's sellers website note that the sale of firearms as well as firearm ammunition and accessories are prohibited, including magazines, magazine components, and kits that can be used to create magazines. Google says it does not allow the promotion of some products that can cause harm, damage, or injury, including handguns, rifles, ammunition, and ammunition clips among other gun-oriented items.
