Electric and hybrid cars have become popular over the years thanks to rising fuel prices, more EV options and government subsidies. Also, the improved EV technology has helped increase the range and lower charging times, making them more practical for Indian roads.

Automakers are now launching electric and hybrid car models quite frequently and it is only going to increase over time. Automakers like Tata Motors, Volvo, Nissan, and MG are among the companies that are expected to launch new electric and hybrid cars in the country this year.

MG Comet EV

MG has announced the launch of the MG Comet EV in India. The MG Comet EV is a rebadged version of the Wuling Air EV sold in the Indonesian market. It is expected to be launched on April 19, 2023, and priced at around ₹10 lakh, making it one of the most affordable cars in the electric car segment. The Comet EV will have a boxy design that maximizes passenger space.

Tata Punch EV

Tata is actively launching its cars in the electric market. After the Tiago EV, Tata is expected to launch the Punch in the EV market. The Punch is expected to retain much of its looks from the petrol variant. Tata is expected to launch the Punch in September 2023 at an expected price of ₹12 lakh. We can expect the Tata Punch EV to offer two battery packs, one for its medium range and another one for the long range.

Tata Altroz

The Altroz is a premium range hatchback, and now Tata is expected to launch the Tata Altroz in the electric car segment. The Altroz is expected to borrow features from the Tata Nexon EV, like the electric powertrain and PDU (Power Distribution Unit). Tata is very tight-lipped about the Tata Altroz EV launch date, so we do not have any expected launch date. However, the Altroz EV is expected to be launched at around ₹14 lakh.

Volvo C40 Recharge

The Swedish luxury car company has confirmed the launch of the Volvo C40 Recharge in late 2023. The C40 Recharge will be the second electric car from Volvo. Globally, the C40 Recharge is available in two variants: the Single Motor Drive and the Twin Motors, and both are expected to be launched in India. Volvo India is focusing on increasing its electric car market. The C40 Recharge is expected to be launched at a price range of around ₹60 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki C-MPV

Maruti Suzuki plans to launch a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross in India. The C-MPV is expected to have a 2L engine, which Toyota's hybrid technology will power. The car can offer an impressive mileage of 22 kmpl. Maruti Suzuki may launch the C-MPV in late 2023 at an expected price of around ₹20 lakh.

Nissan X-trail

Nissan recently unveiled the fourth generation of the X-Trail. The Nissan X-Trail is expected to be launched in mid-2023. The X-Trail is an SUV by Nissan that will have two variants of hybrid systems: Strong Hybrid and Mild Hybrid. The car is expected to be launched at around ₹40 lakhs.

Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is an SUV based on the CMF-C platform, which was jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. The Qashqai is expected to have a 1.3L petrol engine supported by a Mild-Hybrid power motor. The car is expected to be launched at around ₹30 lakhs. The Qashqai is expected to be launched after the Nissan X-Trail so we can expect its launch in late 2023 or early 2024.
