Amazon will now deliver to containment zones in Mumbai ⁠— these are the eligible areas

• Amazon India has partnered with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to deliver essential supplies in Mumbai’s containment zones.
• Amazon will deliver orders to a designated delivery point in the vicinity of the containment zone.
• Volunteers will then deliver the packages to the customer’s doorstep.

Amazon India has partnered with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to deliver essential supplies to the containment zones in Mumbai. So far, e-commerce players were not allowed to function in containment zones at all.

“Our collaboration with BMC is intended to support those in the containment zones to access essential items conveniently and safely,” said Prakash Rochlani, Director, Last Mile Operations, Amazon India.

During Lockdown 3.0, Amazon has also started delivering non-essential orders to green and orange zones in the country. However, the metropolitan cities of India that are the top markets for e-commerce platforms are in the red zone where only essentials can be delivered.

How will it function

Amazon will deliver orders to a designated delivery point in the vicinity of the containment zone, from where volunteers will further deliver the packages to the customer’s doorstep.

Consumers will have to place their orders on the Amazon app, and select their delivery location in the containment zone. Volunteers from the containment zone will then pick up the packages and deliver it to the user's doorsteps.

Mumbai is one of the worst hit cities in the coronavirus pandemic and has over 10,000 cases in the city.
