Food delivery platform Swiggy is the latest company to crack down on password sharing, following the footsteps of Netflix, which recently announced its password sharing policy. The new password sharing policy will come into effect from February 6, 2023.

Swiggy has started notifying Swiggy One subscribers, informing them that it is changing the terms and conditions of Swiggy One. This means that the current changes are applicable only to Swiggy One subscribers for now.

Swiggy One is the company’s premium subscription service that offers benefits such as free delivery, additional discounts and more. The company currently offers two plans – a quarterly plan and an annual plan. As part of Swiggy One, users get free deliveries on food orders above ₹149, Instamart orders above ₹199, and up to 30% discount on food and dining.

Interestingly, the prices for its plans are different for different users while offering the same benefits. Users who renew their membership are charged considerably more than new users.

“We are updating our terms & conditions soon. As per this update, effective Feb 6th, Swiggy One members can log into a maximum of two devices at any given time,” Swiggy said in a notification to users.

Changes aimed at reducing “misuse”

Swiggy has claimed that it is implementing the changes to prevent instances of “misuse” of the Swiggy One membership. The company has said that the membership is meant for “personal use” and the password sharing policy is aimed at reducing instances of misuse.

“The Swiggy One membership is meant for personal usage. Implementing this change will reduce instances of misuse. This ensures we are able to serve our members in the most optimal way while still maintaining fair usage within reasonable parameters,” the company added.

Swiggy has also added that this change is necessary to ensure that the membership remains affordable to users and continues to be sustainable for the company.

“This change ensures that we continue to make the membership affordable for all customers and sustainable for Swiggy,” the company added.

At present, there is no limit on how many devices can be logged into using a single account and users often purchase membership on one account and share it with their friends and family members.
