India’s second largest telecom company Bharti Airtel is likely to be the biggest beneficiary of Vi’s troubles, regardless of whether the Indian telecom market continues to operate as it is today with three players or becomes a duopoly. Since Reliance Jio’s debut in 2016, the Indian telecom sector has seen a massive upheaval and consolidation. From nearly 9 active telecom companies in the private sector, only Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have active operations, and they account for 91% of India’s total subscriber base.

Jio adds 3 million subscribers in March, Vodafone Idea loses 1.2 million

India's largest telecom operator Reliance Jio added 30.5 lakh mobile subscribers in March, accelerating its momentum of February, while Vodafone Idea lost 12.12 lakh wireless users during the month, according to data released by telecom regulator TRAI. Sunil Mittal-led telecom company Bharti Airtel onboarded 10.37 lakh mobile subscribers in March, raising its subscriber base to 37.09 crores in March against 36.98 crores in February.

Brokerages remain bullish on Bharti Airtel post Q4 results

Brokerages continue to be bullish on Bharti Airtel’s prospects a day after India’s second-largest telecom company posted its Q4 results. The telco’s earnings has the street buzzing, with Airtel’s shares rising 1.3% early on Wednesday even as the benchmark indices trended lower. Airtel beat analyst estimates with a March-quarter net profit of ₹3,006 crore, up 50% year-on-year (YoY).
