"Avatar: The Way of Water" continued its streak at the box office over the weekend, passing "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to become the fourth-biggest movie ever.

The sequel has grossed $2.116 billion at the worldwide box office after nearly seven weeks in theaters, and there are no signs of it slowing down.

But it still has a long way to go to catch the first "Avatar," which is the highest-grossing movie of all time with a total gross of $2.9 billion. "Avengers: Endgame," the second-biggest movie ever, earned $2.8 billion.

"Titanic," from "Avatar" and "The Way of Water" director James Cameron, is within reach. The 1997 movie stands at $2.194 billion at the global box office, about $80 million ahead of "The Way of Water."

At any rate, Cameron has now directed three of the top four biggest movies of all time. And "The Way of Water" has brought in enough money to ensure the planned third, fourth, and fifth "Avatar" movies are made, according to Cameron.
