How to stop payment of cheque from online SBI netbanking
For many reasons, you may need to make a stop payment request for the cheques you might have issued to third parties. For example, if you have issued a cheque for a wrong amount or if you have cancelled the order after issuing the cheque, you may need to stop the payment. If you are a SBI customer, you can follow these simple steps for making a stop payment of a cheque request.

How to make stop payment of cheque request online through SBI retail portal

  • Visit the online portal of SBI for retail customers.
  • Click on the menu box on top of the page ‘Request & Enquiries.
  • In the drop down menu, click on the option ‘Stop Cheque Payment’.
  • Select the account number from which you issued the cheque.
  • In the column ‘Start Cheque Number’, enter the number of the first cheque you wish to cancel.
  • In the column ‘End Cheque Number’, enter the number of the last cheque in the series of cheques you wish to cancel.
  • If you wish to cancel the payment for a full cheque book, enter the first cheque leaf’s number in the first column and the last cheque leaf’s number in the next column.
  • If you have any confusion regarding the cheque numbers, you can go to the menu ‘Cheque Book request’ in which you will find the details of the cheque books issued to you so far with the cheque numbers. From here you can gather the cheque numbers.
  • Select the type of cheque and then enter the ‘Stop Reason’.
  • There will be charges for making a stop request. The minimum charge will be Rs. 100 and the maximum charges will be Rs. 500 depending on the condition and amount. The relevant charges will be automatically debited from your account.
  • Once you complete these steps, you will see the complete details of the cheque(s) for which you made the stop payment request.
  • You can also view stop cheques which will give you the details of the cheques for which you made the stop payment request.
  • At a later date if you wish to cancel the stop payment request and honor the cheque, you can go to ‘Revoke stop Payment Instruction’ tab and fill in the details of the cheque that you wish to honor once again.
  • You will receive a high security transaction password on your registered mobile number. Enter the number and click on ‘confirm’. You will see a message on the screen that your request has been accepted with the reference number.
Useful information

If you wish to make the stop-cheque-payment request online, the service will be available only from 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. If the service is not available online, you will have to physically visit the branch where you have the account and make the request by filling in the forms available at the branch.

Though the bank has made stopping payment requests an easy thing for the customers through the SBI online portal, there are always hassles involved in the process and you need to bear the charges. Hence it is always good to be careful while issuing the cheque so that you can avoid this hassle.
