  • The Stand Up For Ukraine campaign said Saturday it received $10.1 billion financing.
  • The celebrity-backed campaign will channel the funds to Ukrainian refugees.

A star-studded campaign to raise money for Ukrainian refugees received $10.1 billion financing from companies, governments, and private philanthropists, one of its organizers said.

Advocacy group Global Citizen said "Stand Up For Ukraine," also backed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, received $5.5 billion worth of new loans and $4.6 billion in new grants at a pledging event Saturday.

Celebrity backers of the campaign include Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Hugh Jackman, and Elton John.

On Twitter on Sunday, Von der Leyen $4 of the the event: "Yesterday the world came together with a powerful message of unity & solidarity."

European institutions participating in the event included the Council of Europe Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Investment Bank, Global Citizen said.

Almost $8 billion of the funds is destined for Ukrainian refugees in EU countries, with the remainder going to displaced people within Ukraine.
