Buyback guarantee on smartphones a part of upcoming Big10 sale at Flipkart

India’s leading e-commerce player $4 expects to take its smartphone sales to more than double during the upcoming $4, riding on its "Buyback Guarantee" programme.


The programme was first tested with the Moto G5 during March, after the success of which it was made available to customers for Rs 399 for brands like Lenovo, Motorola, $4.

The programme would become a permanent feature for Flipkart smartphones after the sale is over, albeit at a higher price.

"This kind of program, along with other affordability programs (low cost EMI and other) will offer a 50-70% jump in sales in general, but during sale time, the increase in likely to be in the range of 2x to 2.5x," said Ayyappan Rajagopal, Flipkart’s Senior Director of smartphones.

The $4 offering this service fall under varied price ranges, from Rs 10,000 to Rs 80,000.

Under the scheme, Flipkart would offer customers 35 to 50% of the MRP of the purchased phone at the time of exchange or giving back. However, the offer would be for a limited period of six to eight months or more, which would be pre-decided.

"Such a program is not there in India and in the US it exists for higher priced models like the iPhone. However, we're bringing it to models across most price ranges," Rajagopal added.
