India surpassed the 3 lakh mark after 8 months as the country reported 3,17,532 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday,which is 34,562 more than the previous day. The active caseload of the country stands at 19,24,051 cases as of Thursday.

491 people succumbed to COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the tally to 4,87,693, as per the health ministry. The death toll has reportedly increased over 70% in the last seven days compared to the week before that.
Around 2,23,990 people have recovered so far in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate also stands at 93.69%, according to the data by the Union Health Ministry.
The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 9,287 cases reported in 28 states, an increase of 3.63%.
Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate has shot up again from 15.13% to 16.41% while the weekly positivity rate is 16.06%, as the country is witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases.
India has inoculated 73,38,592 COVID-19 vaccination doses in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to more than 159 crore doses so far.
