The Indian government is preparing to fight COVID-19 by setting up dedicated hospitals.The pandemic that reached India on January 30 has so far claimed 29 lives and infected 1071, and 100 have recovered. Since the outbreak, the Indian government has been continuously trying to increase the number of testing kits, testing labs, quarantine facilities to fight the deadly virus.


Here are some of the hospitals dedicated especially to the COVID-19:

Odisha to set two of the largest COVID-19 hospitals in next 10 days

The Odisha government planned to set up two of the largest Covid-19 hospitals with a combined capacity of 1,000 beds and will be functional by April 10. The state government on Thursday signed two tripartite agreements with SUM and KIMS Medical Colleges to set up the 1,000-bed state-level hospitals in Bhubaneswar for treatment of Covid-19 patients, said a statement.

The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and the Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL) will provide their CSR funding for the project. Both the new facilities will be functional within a fortnight, the statement said.


AIIMS to convert Trauma Centre into COVID-19 hospital

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi decided to convert its sprawling Trauma Centre building into a COVID-19 hospital. Preparations are underway to convert the facility, which provides treatment mostly to victims of road accidents, into a dedicated COVID-19 hospital. Initially, it will have around 260 beds.

The Trauma Centre currently has 242 beds and 18 more are being added to it. Of the total number of beds, there are about 50 ICU beds and around 30-40 beds in the high-dependency unit. It has around 70 ventilators.

Defence forces reserves 28 hospitals for COVID-19 patients

The Indian Army, Air Force and Naval forces have reserved as many as 28 military hospitals to test and treat coronavirus patients across India. These include Military Hospital Avadi, Base Hospital Lucknow, Military Hospital Gaya, Military Hospital Belgaum, Military Hospital Patiala, Military Hospital Panagarh, INHS (Indian Naval Hospital Shop) Nivarani in Odisha, INHS Jeevanti in Goa and four Air Force hospital in Kalaikunda. Some other hospitals are located in Dimapur, Suratgarh, Ahmedabad, Akhnoor, Hindon, Karwar, Golconda and Bangalore.

Both armed forced patients as well as civilian patients can be transferred here for the treatment.

Assam government to set 4 temporary hospitals

The Assam government is aggressively working to build four temporary hospitals and one quarantine centre that can accommodate 700 people. These hospitals will together have 1,200 beds. According to Assam Health Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma , the hospitals will soon be ready for treatment. They are located in places with no medical college.

Reliance opens dedicated COVID-19 hospital in Mumbai
These are the Indian hospitals dedicated to COVID-19
Reliance Industries said it has set up a dedicated COVID-19 hospital in Mumbai. All beds are equipped with the required infrastructure biomedical equipment such as ventilators, pacemakers, dialysis machines and patient monitoring devices. The hospital also includes a negative pressure room.
