Google showcased the Android One operating system for budget smartphones today in India and who better to partner with than MediaTek, to take the brand to emerging mobile markets. MediaTek has announced that they will be working together with Google with the aim to reach the next Billion smartphone users.

Android is the single largest smartphone operating system in developing countries. Mediatek is famous for building world class low to mid-end chipset for mobiles. This marriage should be fruitful for mobile manufacturers like Micromax, Karbonn and Celkon, who can take advantage of the chipset and operating system environment to further increase their reach in tier 2 and tier 3 towns of India.

“MediaTek has long been an advocate of providing high-quality devices at reasonable prices, and our all-inclusive product road map stands as a strong proof point of that commitment,” said Mohit Bhushan, Vice President of U.S. Business Development at MediaTek.

“Google is pleased to partner with MediaTek on the Android One initiative. MediaTek has the expertise to provide what is needed for Android One devices and insights into the needs of consumers in emerging markets,” said Caesar Sengupta, VP of Product Management at Google.

The first lot of Android One devices are already on the MediaTek chips. The MT6582 takes advantage of the new Google operating environment and can provide the customers a pleasant experience using the ARM Cortex A7 CPU installed on this mobile motherboard. Micromax, Karbonn and Spice mobiles are already using this chipset in the first series of their Android One smartphones and are already up for grabs.
