The top 10 richest West Bengal assembly election candidates together have assets worth over ₹85 crore in Phase 2

- Out of the top 10 richest candidates in the West Bengal assembly elections in 2021, 5 are from the BJP and 4 from the TMC, with a lone candidate from the Congress.
- In total, TMC leads the list of crorepati (millionaire) candidates, with 11 politicians, while BJP comes in at a close second with 10 politicians.
- The West Bengal assembly elections will be conducted in eight phases, starting from March 27 and lasting till April 29.
This close fight is also reflected in the number of crorepati (millionaire) candidates that both the parties have, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The TMC edges out BJP by a small margin, with 11 crorepati candidates as opposed to BJP’s 10.
Out of the top 10 richest candidates, 5 are from BJP, 4 are from the TMC while 1 is from the Congress. BJP’s Bharati Ghosh tops the list with a total wealth of over ₹19 crore.

Here’s a breakdown of the top 10 richest candidates in the West Bengal elections:
1. Bharati Ghosh – BJP
BJP’s Bharati Ghosh tops the list with a wealth of over ₹19 crore. She is contesting from the Debra constituency, going up against TMC’s Humayun Kabir, whose declared wealth is a little under ₹4 crore. Bharati Ghosh is a graduate from Harvard University and London School of Economics, and is also a former IPS officer.
2. Dipankar Jana – BJP
Dipankar Jana, another BJP candidate, is fighting from the Kakdwip constituency. He has a total wealth of over ₹14 crore. He is fighting against TMC’s Manturam Pakhira, whose declared wealth is a little over ₹8 lakh, according to data available on MyNeta.
3. Arup Chakraborty – TMC
Arup Chakraborty’s wealth is a little under ₹9 crore. He is the TMC candidate from the Taldangra constituency, fighting against BJP’s Shyamal Kumar Sarkar. Chakraborty also has liabilities to the tune of almost ₹4 crore.
4. Saumen Kumar Mahapatra – TMC
Saumen Kumar Mahapatra is the second candidate from TMC on this list. He has a wealth of over ₹8 crore and liabilities of a little under ₹2 crore. He is fighting from the Tamluk constituency, going up against BJP’s Dr. Harekrishna Bera, who himself has a wealth of over ₹5 crore.
5. Ashoke Dinda – BJP
Cricketer-turned-politician Ashoke Dinda is one of the newest celebrities joining politics in West Bengal. He has a total wealth of over ₹7 crore and is BJP’s candidate from the Moyna constituency. He is up against TMC’s Sangram Kumar Dolui.
6. Manas Ranjan Bhunia – TMC
TMC’s third entry in this list is Manas Ranjan Bhunia, who has a total wealth of over ₹7 crore. He is TMC’s candidate from Sabang, going up against Amulya Maity. Bhunia handles multiple ministries in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet, including irrigation, textile, and MSME.
7. Dr. Hare Krishna Bera – BJP
Dr. Hare Krishna Bera is another entry from the BJP, with a total wealth of over ₹5 crore. He has been nominated from the Tamluk constituency, taking on TMC’s Saumen Kumar Mahapatra who has a wealth of over ₹8 crore.
8. Indranil Rout – Congress
The lone entry from Congress is Indranil Rout, who has accumulated a wealth of over ₹5 crore. He is fighting from the Kakdwip constituency, making him the second candidate from this constituency. His opposition is BJP’s Dipankar Jana and TMC’s Manturam Pakhira.
9. Soham Chakraborty - TMC
Soham Chakraborty, an actor and producer and runner up in the Barjora constituency election in 2016, has a wealth of over ₹4 crore. He is fighting on a TMC ticket from the Chandipur constituency and will be up against BJP’s Pulak Kanti Guriya.
10. Tanmay Ghosh (Bumba) – BJP
The fifth entrant from the BJP in this list is Tanmay Ghosh (Bumba) with a wealth of over ₹4 crore and liabilities of over ₹1 crore. He is fighting from the Bishnupur constituency and will be taking on TMC’s Archita Bid.
