  • One of the DOJ's ongoing probes of Donald Trump includes an investigation into the Capitol riot.
  • The DOJ appears to be expanding that inquiry by looking into Trump's PAC, Save America, per reports.

The Justice Department is looking into Donald Trump's main fundraising arm, Save America, with a federal grand jury doling a fresh set of subpoenas this week to aides who worked in the Trump administration and the former president's election campaign, according to multiple reports.

The subpoenas appear to be a part of the DOJ's larger inquiry into the events leading up to the Capitol riot, ABC News reported. The Justice Department is currently investigating the moments leading up to the insurrection, attempts to obstruct that inquiry, and the scheme to overturn the 2020 vote using a slate of fake electors.

About a half-dozen current and former aides were subpoenaed, The New York Times reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the investigation. This includes former Trump White House aides William B. Harrison, William S. Russell, and Nicholas Luna, as well as Ivanka Trump's chief of staff Julie Radford.

The interest in Trump's Save America PAC is a new development in the DOJ's probe, although it's unclear what particular actions the fundraising vehicle is being investigated for or how it relates to the inquiry into the January 6, 2021, attack, according to The Times.

Federal prosecutors are interested in the formation of the PAC and its spending practices, ABC News reported. A source familiar with the subpoenas' language told CNN that the department may be investigating whether those associated with the PAC employed baseless claims about the 2020 election to defraud people.

Save America did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

The development comes as Trump is mired in a series of ongoing criminal probes by the Justice Department.

On Thursday, the DOJ appealed a federal judge's order that would allow for an independent party to review thousands of documents that were seized from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort.

In its filing, federal prosecutors wrote that the appeal would "likely" succeed.
