Walmart and Target pull Washington Redskins products amid calls for the team to change its name

Walmart and Target have stopped selling Washington Redskins gear, after the NFL team announced $4to review its name.

Redskins-branded products were not available on the retailers' websites on Monday.

Walmart $4 on Friday that it had removed the gear.

"Given today's announcement by the NFL and the Washington team's ownership, we are discontinuing the sale of items that reference the team's name and logo," the company tweeted.

Target confirmed to $4 that it removed Redskins merchandise from its website, as well. Target did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The moves by Walmart and Target come amid $4 against the Redskins to change its name.

FedEx, which has naming rights to the team's stadium, last week requested that the team rebrand. Nike later $4 Redskins merchandise from its site.
