The state of Maharashtra is at present ruled by a coalition overnment of BJP and Shiv Sena which have together won 185 out of 288 seats in the 2014 assembly elections. The five year term of the present government is coming to a close on November 9, 2019. Therefore, the election commission of India has said the state will go for a single phase assembly elections for all its 288 seats in October 2019.

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, the Chief Election Commissioner of India Sunil Arora convened a press meeting in New Delhi and declared the dates of the upcoming state assembly elections in Maharashtra. He said the official notification of the said elections will get published on the gazette on Friday, September 27, 2019.

The candidates who want to contest in the said elections must file their nominations before Friday, October 4, 2019. Following that, the election commission will scrutinize the applications and declare whose nominations are accepted and whose candidatures are rejected on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

Those candidates who wish to withdraw their nominations must do so before Monday, October 7, 2019.

The single phased elections for all the constituencies of Maharashtra will be conducted on Monday, October 21, 2019.

On Thursday, October 24, 2019 the votes will be counted across all the seats and the results will be out on the same day evening.

The Maharashtra state assembly has 288 seats in total. The upcoming elections will see all the seats going for polling on the same day on Monday, October 21, 2019.
