Modi government’s top secretaries took questions from the audience over the difficulties that startups in India face. Here’s what the esteemed panel comprising secretaries from the Revenue department, HRD, DEA, Science, BioTech, SIDBI, DEITY, MSME, SEBI, Corporate Affairs said they are already doing for the startup community:

Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das: "In India launching a startup is like Abhimanyu entering in to Chakravyuha. India’s startup programme is a real gamechanger. We are very positive about StartupIndia and have something really nice in the package that we have to wait and watch out for.

Amitabh Kant, DIPP : 1,000 patent examiners have been recruited. In 18 months our patent dependency levels will be same as the US & Japan.

Anup K. Pujari Secretary, MSME: We are increasing government requirement to procure from MSMEs. But have zero defects.

K Shivaji, Chairman & MD, SIDBI: We have been able to launch funds with the help of the government of India and RBI. SIDBI now has fund of funds. It’s called the India Aspiration Fund (Rs 2K Cr). You will be really glad to know that we are active across the startup lifecycle to help startups and investors alike.

Vijay Raghavan, Secretary, Biotechnology: Startups should address domestic market; keep an eye on genomics and IP.
To a pertinent question as to how it would be easy for a company to come here and get listed Tapan Ray, Corp. Affairs: We are linking various departments and looking forward to develop a system which will help register within 24 hrs.

Prashant Saran from SEBI pitched in: We too have done away with many problems of startups, the documentations have been made much simpler. No running around will be required from now on.

VS Oberoi from HRD Ministry: In next few months, we will bring out the support in small towns which is much needed."
