As per a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp beta for iOS version 2.20.20.17, WhatsApp has implemented a dark splash screen for its app. The report further adds that the app is compatible to receive activation for dark theme from the server, meaning dark mode may soon be announced for iOS.

How to enable dark mode in WhatsApp on Android

  • Sign up for WhatsApp beta program on the Play Store.
  • Download the latest beta version on your phone.
  • Now, open WhatsApp on your phone.
  • Tap the overflow button (three dots) at the top right corner.
  • Click on ‘Settings’ and then click on ‘Chats’.
  • Now, click on ‘Theme’ and select the theme you want to use.
  • You can choose from ‘Light’ and ‘Dark’ and a third option that depends on your Android version.
  • Android 10 users will get the ‘System Default’ option and users on Android Pie and below versions will get the ‘Set by Battery Saver’ option on the app.
On Android 10, when the user selects the ‘System Default’ option, the app identifies the theme used by the system and sets the theme to dark or light accordingly. The ‘Set by Battery Saver’ option switches to dark or light theme based on the device’s battery saver settings.
