A renowned American actor and musician, Johnny Depp was born on June 9, 1963. He has bagged several awards including a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Topping the list of the most searched persons on Google, he came on the news on account of the defamation suit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, which was televised. Throughout the trial, a massive crowd of followers pursued the developments and finally, Depp won the case. Described as the Depp-Heard trial, it was one of the most searched topics in 2022.

Second on the list of most searched persons, we find Will Smith - an American actor born in 1968, who is known by his stage name the Fresh Prince. Will Smith started trending on the internet after he slapped comedian Chris Rock on the stage during the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022. Will Smith’s fit of anger was due to Rock's joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith's bald head. Jada had been shaving her head regularly since 2021 on account of alopecia areata. Despite apologizing, Smith was banned from attending the academy events for about ten years.

The third most searched person on Google is actor Amber Laura Head, the ex-wife of John C Depp. They both met in 2009 and were married in February 2015. During their divorce proceedings in 2016, Amber accused Depp of physically abusing her, which he denied. Depp filed a defamation complaint against Amber Heard claiming $50 million in damages. Heard too filed counterclaims against Depp and claimed $100 million in damages. The trial was live-streamed. A large number of viewers were critical of Heard and sympathetic to Depp. The trial ended in Depp’s favour.

Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, is the fourth most searched person on Google. He has served in this position since 2012 and had earlier occupied the same post from 2000 to 2008. He was Russia’s Prime Minister from 1999 to 2000 and between 2008 and 2012. Putin dominated Google searches after he declared a special military operation against Ukraine aimed at demilitarizing and ‘denazifying’ the country. Internationally, this move has been condemned as a war of aggression. Many countries reacted with sanctions that affected the Russian as well as the world economy.

Chris Rock, the fifth most searched person on Google, was born in 1965. He is an actor, filmmaker, and comedian. Rock was hosting the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, when he was slapped on the stage by actor Will Smith - who bagged the best actor award later in the day. The slapping incident was on account of Rock’s joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett’s bald head, which she had been shaving for more than a year on account of alopecia areata. This video of the incident was the most viewed online video within the first 24 hours.

Novak Djokovic, the tennis superstar is the most searched athlete on Google, capturing sixth place on the list. Notably, he is the only tennis player to find a place among the top ten most searched persons. Djokovic will represent Team Falcons in the 2023 tennis scene at the World Tennis League in Dubai. The Serbian professional tennis player has been ranked in the fifth position in singles by ATP, the Association of Tennis Professionals. He has won 21 Grand Slam titles for men’s singles.

Infamous con artist Anna Sorokin made headlines after drama miniseries Inventing Anna released on Netflix. Also known as Anna Delvey, she was born in 1991 in a suburb of Moscow. In 2017, Delvy was arrested by the Los Angeles police on allegations of money swindling. She was accused of defrauding institutions and individuals between 2013-17 for a total of $275,000. In 2019, she was sentenced to 4 to 12 years of prison. On February 11, 2021, Delvy was released from jail for good behavior. She was taken into custody by ICE on charges related to immigration in October 2022 but later released and placed under 24-hour home confinement with electronic monitoring.

Described as the ‘King of Toxic Masculinity’, he has been trending on the internet for the wrong reasons but shot to widespread infamy after his Twitter war with activist Greta Thunberg led to his arrest. Several social media platforms have banned his account for promoting misogynistic ideology.

Narayana Murthy, the founder of the Indian IT company Infosys. She is one of the wealthiest women in the UK.
