In its second launch of the year in India, Realme added two new smartphones in its number series —
Realme 9 Pro+ 5G and
Realme 9 Pro 5G. These two phones are priced in the mid-range category where they compete with rivals from Xiaomi, OnePlus and Samsung.
The difference in specifications and features between the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G and Realme 9 Pro 5G are also quite interesting and might not seem like what one would expect. To put it simply, the Realme 9 Pro 5G actually offers better performance in some areas where the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G doesn’t.

Processor, RAM and storage
Powering the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor. The Realme 9 Pro comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor. Based on benchmark tests conducted by multiple websites, the MediaTek Dimensity 920 performs better than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695.
The Realme 9 Pro+ 5G comes in two variants of 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB. The Realme 9 Pro 5G has three variants of 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB.
Display, design
Both the phones feature a Super AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution. But you get a bigger 6.6-inch screen on the Realme 9 Pro 5G than the 6.4-inch on the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G. Interestingly, you also get a higher 120Hz refresh rate on the Realme 9 Pro 5G while the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G offers a 90Hz refresh rate.
In terms of design, the two phones have the same design. The two phones also come in the same colour options of Midnight Black, Sunrise Blue and Aurora Green.
Cameras
There’s a difference in the cameras as well, with the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G featuring a 50MP primary sensor, and the Realme 9 Pro 5G housing a 64MP primary sensor. Otherwise, the two phones come with 8MP and 2MP ultra wide angle and macro cameras. For selfies too, both the phones have a 16MP front camera.
Battery, fast charging
On the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G you get a 4,500mAh battery with 60W SuperDart Charge. The Realme 9 Pro 5G has a bigger 5,000mAh battery but with 33W Dart Charge.
Takeaways
The Realme 9 Pro+ 5G can be considered for its faster-charging speed, better processor and more storage capacity. But if a better display and slightly better camera is a priority then the Realme 9 Pro 5G is recommended.
