Apple domination: Seven out of top 10 smartphones sold worldwide are iPhones

• Apple’s iPhones have dominated the worldwide smartphone market in 2023.
• Apple had emerged as the top smartphone maker in the world in 2023 for the first time.
• The iPhone 13 has also made it to the list as the oldest iPhone.

Cupertino tech giant Apple has dominated worldwide smartphone shipments in 2023, with seven out of the top ten most selling smartphones being iPhones. This comes soon after a report last month revealed that Apple has beaten Samsung for the first time to become the top smartphone maker in the world.

According to a report by Canalys, the top ten most selling smartphone list includes seven iPhones and three Samsung smartphones.

Premium iPhones dominate the list

The iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple’s most premium smartphones have dominated the list of the top selling smartphones in the world with a sale of 34 million and 33 million devices respectively.

Two other iPhones launched in 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 take the seventh and the tenth position respectively with sales of 21 million and 17 million units. The iPhone 15 Plus, which was launched alongside these devices is missing from the list.

While three iPhone 14 series devices have made it to the list, the iPhone 13 has also made it to the list as the oldest iPhone with sales of 23 million units, taking the fifth position.

Samsung’s mid-range series outperforms the flagships

Unlike Apple, Samsung’s mid-range series have outperformed their mid-range smartphones. The top selling smartphones list include three smartphones from the Korean smartphone maker’s Galaxy A series, including a 4G smartphone. The company’s Galaxy S series smartphones have not made it to the list.

The top selling smartphone for Samsung in 2023 was the Galaxy A14 4G, with a sale of 21 million units. It is also the most affordable smartphone on the list. The other two Samsung smartphones in the list are the Galaxy A54 5G and the Galaxy A14 5G, with sales of 20 million and 19 million respectively.
