Google co-founder Sergey Brin reportedly told his financial advisers to sell off all of his investments in Elon Musk's companies after learning that Musk reportedly had an affair with Brin's wife, Nicole Shanahan.

Brin and Shanahan divorced in January after he learned of the affair last year, the Wall Street Journal first reported on Sunday, citing unnamed sources "familiar with the matter."

The anonymous sources said the longtime friendship between Brin and Musk was strained leading up to Brin's decision to sell his investments in Musk's businesses. The Journal reported that it has not ascertained how "large those investments are, or whether there have been any sales."

Musk runs Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company, and he is currently in litigation with Twitter after making a $44 billion bid for the company and then attempting to back out.

Brin – a board member of Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company – previously invested $500,000 in Tesla in 2008.

In 2015, Google and Fidelity invested $1 billion in SpaceX, according to The New York Times.
