- 12.9-inch iPad Pro: First-gen and up
Before downloading the iOS 16 on your iPad, we highly recommend backing up your iPad. To do so, Go to Settings, tap on your name at the top and then select iCloud.
From there, tap on iCloud Backup and toggle it on. Then, tap on Back Up Now. Once it’s done, you are ready to install iPadOS 16.

The Stage Manager feature is the reason iPadOS 16 was delayed. This feature automatically organizes apps and windows, making it easy to switch between tasks. With the help of this feature, for the first time, iPad users can create overlapping windows of different sizes in a single view.
Stage Manager is available on selected devices like iPad with M1 and M2 chips.
This new feature is available on iPad Pro models. It allows a 12.9- inch iPad Pro to display reference colour in addition to SDR and HDR.
Display Zoom lets you choose options like larger text or more space in addition to the default view. The Display modes is available under the Display and Brightness section of the Settings app.
In the Messages app, users can unsend or edit a message. Users can also retrieve deleted messages and mark a conversation as unread. Also, the FaceTime SharePlay feature now works in the Messages app, allowing you to watch TV shows and movies while chatting with friends.
The much-awaited Weather app for iPad is here. It is identical to the iPhone Weather app, providing 10-day forecasts along with information about air quality, UV index, wind speed, and more.
Apple has added some new features to the Mail app, like Undo Send, which gives users up to 30 seconds to change their mind about an email they have sent out. Also, you get reminders to follow up on emails and messages.
With the release of iPadOS 16, Apple is improving gaming on iPads. iPadOS 16 is now gaining support for Metal 3, a new graphics API that the company is simultaneously rolling out to Macs. This new API claims it will enable the iPad to play much more graphically demanding games.
