An increasing amount of people are searching for EVs online. Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model S and Nissan Leaf are their most popular choices. Elon Musk’s Tesla rules as three of its cars — Tesla Model X included — are in the top 5, according to Compare the Market.

In India, the most searched vehicle is the Tesla Model 3, and it hasn’t even launched in the country yet.

Nissan Leaf was on the market long before Elon Musk came along promising sustainable EVs to the masses. Initially, the offerings may have been limited, but the newest Nissan Leaf launched in 2019 has a longer range and more powerful motor than its predecessors.

The Nissan Leaf also cheaper than the Tesla Model 3 will its basic variant retailing for $30,885 or ₹2.1 million (₹21 lakh).

The only drawback of the car is that it’s not as speedy and doesn’t accelerate as fast its counterparts.

The Hyundai Kona Electric is the first EV on this list that actually available in India. The South Korean company is currently the second largest automobile manufacturer in the county.

Launched this year, the electric SUV retails for ₹2.5 million (₹25.30 lakh). Its market penetration is fairly limited, with only 14 dealerships around the country.

In a bid to boost the use of EVs in India, Hyundai has also partnered with Indian Oil to set up fast charging stations in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru.

The EV is also not what you would expect from a typical Jaguar car. Aside of the signature Jaguar grille up front, the car looks distinctively different from other Jaguar offerings — especially with its size.

And despite that, it managed to maintain the Jaguar ‘look’.
