Come 2040, and technology may have changed your dinner table – if there would be a dinner table at all. Everything from how we eat to what we eat and more importantly what we should eat might look very different — all bad news for foodies, as per a report by Deliveroo.

For one, tech will do what most moms do — smell your mouth to tell you what you ate. And, BreathTech will take it to the next level.

“You can breathe on your device and get a deep level of insight into what foods you should be eating to have an optimal impact on your individual health and well-being,” the report named Snack of the Future says.

Don’t make up your mind, trick it

There is more good news for ladies of the house who can look forward to easily catching midnight snackers, and chiding them too. For the fussy eaters, there are better ways to make them eat healthier than stuffing them or worse hiding spinach inside a momo.

“Thanks to Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technology, your brains could be tricked into thinking you are eating something you are not, for example, if you are a fussy eater who doesn’t want to eat vegetables, you could put on smart glasses and think you are eating chocolate or sweets,” the report says.

From eating in another realm to mindful eating — there will be many more trends that will come in.

There will be restorative restaurants that will cut off all outside distractions and take away personal tech – and bring in ‘silent’ cafes and restaurants.

Hangry much? There are hormone-balancing foods

The grains themselves may change for the better, health-wise at least. Instead of wheat, maize and rice, the ‘common grains’ of the future would be — amaranth, fonio, sorghum, teff, khorasan, einkorn and emmer — which will be mainstream.

The trend of eating fruits and salads to keep your skin supple or even doing a cleanse will ‘level up’ if the report is right. The food and beauty industry will integrate to provide edible beauty products.

“Be ready to see edible beauty products like anti-ageing ice cream and the chance to dine from hormone-balancing and dopamine-driving menus,” the report says.

And the best for the last. You won’t like it. Wines will evolve into new-age ‘wine cordials’ that mimic the taste and flavour profile of real wine, without the intoxication. There is nothing cordial about this trend, and for sure — it’s time to get a drink.
