Sweeping victory in 2019 Lok Sabha elections
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw her winning with a record making margin of more than 3.5 lakh votes than the candidate trailing behind her. Nusrat Jahan Ruhi got 7,82,078 votes in the 2019 parliamentary elections which gave her 54.56% of votes from this constituency. The BJP candidate Sayantan Basu got only 4,31,709 votes with a vote share of 30.12%. In total, there were 13 candidates contesting from this Lok Sabha seat in 2019 elections.

The story of Nusrat Jahan winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections turns interesting as she did it together with her close friend Mimi Chakraborthy, yet another model-actress popular from the state of West Bengal. Both the friends contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on behalf of the TMC. While Nusrat Jahan recorded a sweeping victory from the Basirhat seat, Mimi Chakraborty won from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency defeating the BJP candidate Anupam Hazra by 2,95,239 votes. Thus the two friends made their way together to the parliament.
Nusrat did not take oath as MP on June 17 and 18
Due to her marriage scheduled around this time in Turkey, Nusrat did not attend the oath-taking ceremony for the MPs in the parliament on June 17 and 18. Her friend Mimi also skipped the event as she participated in her friend’s marriage. Nusrat and her friend Mimi Chakraborty took oath only on June 25, 2019, once Nusrat’s marriage festivities were over.
The controversial case
On September 30, 2016, her ex-boyfriend Kader Khan was arrested in the case of the Park Street gang rape case four years after the incident was reported. Around this time, Nusrat was in close association with him preparing to tie the knot with him. Following the arrest of Kader Khan, a number of lawyers demanded Nusrat’s arrest on grounds of sheltering a criminal and saying lies to protect a culprit.
Nusrat’s marriage with Nikhil Jain
Nusrat Jahan’s marriage with the Mumbai based entrepreneur Nikhil Jain took place in an intimate ceremony the couple had planned on June 19, 2019, in the scenic town of Bodrum in Turkey. When they tied the knot, Nusrat was wearing a gorgeous red color lehenga while Nikhil Jain decked himself with a white color outfit. The wedding photograph posted by the newly elected Basirhat MP on Twitter carried the caption, "Towards a happily ever after with Nikhil Jain". The marriage was an intimate event in an awe-inspiring setting. The party consisted only the couple’s close relatives and friends.

Nikhil, a former student of MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School. He pursued his management at the University of Warwick and then worked as a consultant for a multi-national company based in the UK. Nikhil’s family owns a Mumbai based textile chain. Nusrat worked as the face of Nikhil’s textile business and last year they got acquainted and came closer leading to their marriage.
