We enjoy such a seamless browsing experience on our mobile devices because of the <keyword id="6354741" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apps">apps</keyword> that our smart devices come loaded with. And these apps, which bring convenience right at our fingertips, are getting bigger and better. All thanks to Microsoft, Apple and other tech giants who are delivering nothing but the best app experience to consumers on their mobile devices. 
 So, what next do they wish to deliver to Indian consumers? To understand this and to know more about the app market, we got into a candid conversation with <keyword id="1945241" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Joseph-Landes">Joseph Landes</keyword>, general manager, Developer &amp; Experience team, <keyword id="28250" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft-India">Microsoft India</keyword>. Here are the edited excerpts. 
 
What role does your team play in India? 
We help organisations pave their way to the future leveraging the latest technology available. (Pauses and then explains) Don’t you always wonder when you are driving around the country like who put up that bridge, how it actually got from here to over there – like hanging off the edge, building the pieces – so what sort of bridge builders there are today. Similarly, in tech ecosystem, when you know there’s a product coming out like Windows 10, it is essential for an organization to enable an ecosystem for Windows 10. Developers should be acquainted with what Windows 10 is all about and what they can do with it. And this is where we come in. As these organisations analyse what role new technology can play in their business, we help them create an enabling ecosystem. 
 
What level of maturity <keyword id="1914129" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft-apps">Microsoft apps</keyword> have achieved in the Indian market? 
I fondly remember I came to India 3 years back, when we were getting ready for the launch of Windows 8. Our real big focus was on getting the apps into the store because at that time we didn’t have a very reputable app store. We had an app store in place, but there weren’t much stuff in it. So to gain more footage in India, we concentrated on bridging the app gap that people felt is missing on our store. And after 3 years, I feel good where we are currently. Now, I can claim there’s no Indian app that Android has and we don’t have. 
 
Did you make any changes to your <keyword id="2800227" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-app-strategy">global app strategy</keyword> for India? 
As I said before, when we came to India what we wanted to do was to bridge the app gap. And that is precisely what we did: eradicated the local app gap that existed. Our objective is to ensure that Indians to have a ‘wow’ experience on their Windows phone and for this we ensure that all their favourite apps available on other OS platforms are also available on Windows market. 
 
So, how many apps are there on your store? And which among those are your top apps in India? 
Today, we’ve 550,000 apps in the Windows store and most of them are relevant to the Indian consumers often. Naming our top apps is slightly difficult, as I don’t have exact numbers to quote. But on the basis of my experience, I can say IRCTC, Flipkart and Jabong are the most popular India-specific apps. Times news app and Gaana is also popular among Indian audiences. Apps that gain exception traction are the seasonal apps. For instance, when movies like Chennai Express, Dhoom or Krrish hit the theatres, their apps got popular with masses. The sad part, however, is that they eventually die down after a period of time. Obviously, I didn’t include global apps like Facebook, which are popular with people across the globe. 
 
Would we get to see some vernacular Microsoft apps designed specifically for India? 
Well…vernacularity is not one of the big pillars that we want to focus on. Yes, it is a nice and important thing to have, and I can certainly ask developers to write apps that are relevant for their local language, but we don’t plan to do it extensively at this stage. 
As of now, our focus is to cloud enable apps and help developers make universal apps. 
 
Did you observe any differences in the Indian app market from the global market? 
Yes, there indeed is. For Indian audiences, the user interface, graphical interface, design...all matters. After having worked with Indian developers, I can undoubtedly say that they are very good in coding and technicalities—albeit there is some of improvement in terms of design. 
 
Having said that, I still believe, the next big app market would come from India. This country has got the talent that is needed to create wonderful apps like Angry Birds, Candy Crush or more such. I am just waiting to see a brand new gaming app from the Indian developers. 
 
Do Indian consumers app-buying pattern differs from the global audiences? 
The buying pattern in India is very different from many other countries of the world. Mostly, people want something cheaper. I am not generalising this, but this holds true. The trend here is that people are keener to have a free app with some in app purchase. If you look at Xbox, it comes free with some sort of in app purchase. 
 
However, I have seen purchase going up wherever there is direct operator billing system in place. 
 
And, finally what do is your take on the ongoing native vs Cloud mobile apps debate? 
For me, there is a symbiotic collaboration between mobility and cloud. Though native apps are great, I personally feel it will be Cloud mobile apps that would pave way to the future where smartphone won’t look that exciting unless it has great cloud servicing connectivity. Even today, some amazing cloud mobile apps are available on the MS platform. Be it Skype, Bing or One Drive Office 365 – all offer mobility and enable high productivity.

India set to become the world’s ‘app’ central

Mumbai, Apr 29 () State-run Central Bank of India on Wednesday launched various schemes to provide liquidity support to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), agriculture and self-help group borrowers that are affected by the COVID-19 induced lockdown. For MSME borrowers that are standard, the bank is offering an emergency line of credit up to 10 per cent of their existing fund based working capital limits, up to a maximum of Rs 50 crore, a release said. The loans are being offered for 18 months, with the first six months as moratorium. The scheme is offered till June 30, 2020. The lender is offering liquidity support to its existing Kisan credit card holders or term loan borrowers for crop/fisheries/poultry/dairy/animal husbandry between Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. Loans will be given to borrowers having track records of at least one year. For its SHG borrowers, the bank is providing finance of Rs 5,000 per member and up to Rs 1 lakh per SHGs. The liquidity support schemes for agricultural and SHG borrowers will be available till September, 2020, the bank said. HV MRMR

Central Bank of India launches loan schemes for MSMEs, farmers

Mumbai, Jun 12 () State-run Central Bank of India (CBI) on Friday said it has introduced a guaranteed emergency credit line for MSMEs and small business borrowers who are struggling to restart their businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. These customers can avail an additional working capital term loan (WCTL) of up to 20 per cent of their combined fund based outstanding as on February 29, 2020 with a maximum limit of Rs 5 crore, the bank said in a release. The interest rate is linked to an external benchmark, which is the repo rate, with a cap of 7.50 per cent per annum. It has also fully waived the processing charges for these loans. "No penal interest is to be recovered and no guarantee fee is to be charged from the customer to cover the loan under Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for providing 100 per cent guarantee coverage for such additional working capital term loans," the bank said. The government had announced the ECLGS last month as part of its stimulus package for the coronavirus-hit economy. The lender further said it has reduced the interest rate for external benchmark linked accounts by 0.40 per cent after a similar cut in repo rate by the RBI last month. "The decision of the MPC is consistent with a neutral stance of monetary policy in consonance with the objective of achieving consumer price index or CPI inflation at 5 per cent by Q4 of 2016-17 and the medium-term target of 4 per cent within a band of +/- 2%, while supporting growth," the RBI said in its statement."Looking ahead, with inflation set to accelerate, we continue to think that rate hikes will come onto the agenda much sooner than is generally anticipated," argued Shilan Shah, India economist at Capital Economics, in a note to clients.As for the rest of the world, here's the scoreboard as of 8:24 a.m. ET:<ul><li>The US dollar index is up by 0.2% at 100.43 ahead of a quiet data day. The rupee is climbing after India's central bank unexpectedly holds rates

<ul><li>RBI cuts repo rates by 35 basis points, higher than expectations of 25 basis point cut </li><li>The effective rate at which RBI will now lend to banks is at 5.4%. </li></ul>The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today cut its key lending rates by 35 basis points or 0.35%, which is higher than market expectations. This the fourth consecutive repo rate cut that RBI has done, after cutting rates by 25 basis points for the last three policies. The effective rate at which RBI will now lend to banks is at 5.4%. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das today said that they chose to cut rates by 35 basis points instead of the conventional 25 basis points as the latter might turn out to be inadequate due to current macroeconomic conditions. “The size of the rate cut should be calibrated to the dynamics of the situation. With inflation within target, addressing growth concerns especially private investment is of the highest priority,” Das said in the press conference. This will help increase credit and money supply in the market to reignite the sputtering growth engines. Das said that 50 basis points have been excessive, so 35 basis point cut is balanced. The central bank projected an inflation of 3.1% for the second quarter of 2019-20. It also cut its GDP growth estimate to 6.9% from 7% for the current financial year. Unpleasant arithmetic India’s economic growth slipped to 5.8% at the end of the March quarter, the <a href="https://www.livemint.com/news/india/core-sector-growth-flat-in-june-q1-fiscal-deficit-at-61-4-of-full-year-target-1564573772025.html">slowest quarter </a>in five years. A few experts also believed that RBI could wait and watch, though a majority expect a cut since they do not have to worry about inflation which is not high--a factor that could derail a possible cut. “The RBI may also like to wait for another two months to be sure of the inflation path before lowering rates further as it has been indicated that the RBI has so far virtually lowered rates by 100 bps – three times through the repo and once by changing the stance to accommodative,” said a report by CARE Ratings. A mountain of bad loans Banks, caught between a cash crunch and a mountain of bad loans, have not reduced lending rates despite many nudges and winks from the regulator as well as prodding from the <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/business-news/59-minute-loan-approval-among-steps-to-spur-growth/story-rhdDgZCulouEEoOY3PRkuM.html">Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman</a>. “The transmission of rate policy action has been less than satisfactory and the RBI may work on nudging banks to do so instead of lowering the rate once again,” said CARE. Non-banking financial companies or NBFCs, companies that aren’t banks but make loans, are facing liquidity crunch and the crisis is deepening. They, in turn, have stopped lending which has further slowed down the economy particularly in spaces like automobiles and real estate. Monthly auto sales, for instance, fell for the ninth straight month in July.

Central Bank of India is hiring for 115 vacancies across various domains

<ul><li>The <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> has announced that it is working on a dedicated cloud facility.</li><li>The cloud facility is being developed for the country’s financial sector.</li><li>The new facility is aimed at enhancing data security and privacy.</li></ul>India’s central bank, the <keyword id="50847" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="reserve-bank" source="Orion">Reserve Bank</keyword> of India (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) is working on a dedicated cloud facility for the booming financial sector in India. This was announced by RBI governor <keyword id="6359111" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shaktikanta-das" source="Orion">Shaktikanta Das</keyword> during the central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) announcement. The cloud facility is aimed at enhancing data security and privacy. It will also offer better scalability and ensure business continuity for companies. "Banks and financial entities are maintaining an ever-increasing volume of data. Many of them are utilising the cloud facilities for this purpose. The Reserve Bank is working on establishing a cloud facility for the financial sector in India for this purpose,” said Das. Its purpose is to help smaller entities build efficiencies in terms of scale, explained Rabi Sankar, deputy governor of RBI at the post-monetary policy press conference. The cloud facility will be set up in a phased manner in the medium term. It will be initially operated by Indian Financial Technology &amp; Allied Services (IFTAS), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RBI. The facility will later be transferred to a different entity, owned by companies from the country’s financial sector. There is a growing need for improved data security as there has been a steady increase in digital transactions in the country. The setting up of this cloud facility will help startups and small enterprises handle data efficiently, probably at a reduced cost compared to existing international options available. RBI MPC has decided to keep key rates unchanged at 6.5% in its December policy. Other announcements from the meet include enhancements to limits for specific categories of transactions for Unified Payments Interface (<keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword>). As per the new UPI transaction limits, individuals can now make payments up to ₹5 lakh per day to hospitals and educational institutions by UPI. This was earlier capped at ₹1 lakh. The central bank has also proposed to increase the e-mandate for recurring payments to ₹1 lakh from current ₹15,000. Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy slams Indian channel for censorship on the show

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>India's seen <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/india-is-now-the-last-bric-standing-2014-11">a lot of economic success</a> the past few months. The current account deficit shrank from 6.9 percent of GDP in 2012 to just 1 percent now, and stocks are on the rise. One of India's most impressive recent successes, a sharp drop in inflation, is all thanks to Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan.
He's outspoken. He's headstrong. He's also an author, professor, electrical engineer, and one of Paul Krugman's biggest trolls. Oh, and he called the 2008 financial crisis.
So what's this guy's deal?
He's got serious cred.
Rajan, 51, is a tenured finance professor at the University of Chicago when he's not busy being India's central bank governor. Before taking over at the bank, he was the chief economic advisor to former prime minister Manmohan Singh's government.
He's a <a href="http://qz.com/248685/raghuram-rajan-explains-why-corrupt-politicians-win-elections-in-india/">candid critic</a> of Indian corruption, he's written a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Fault-Lines-Fractures-Threaten-Economy/dp/0691152632">couple of books</a> on finance, and he also served three years as the IMF's chief economist. Some are eyeing him as a potential successor to Christine Lagarde as IMF head down the road.
When Rajan took the helm at the Reserve Bank of India in September 2013, he faced a triple threat: a massive trade gap, a tumbling rupee, and a harsh economic slowdown. He aimed to increase savings, harness the power of financial markets to help the economy, and above all cut down inflation. So far he's pretty much succeeded.

He's got connections.
Not only is Rajan well-sourced at the IMF, he's also a member of the Group of 30, an elite bunch of <keyword id="6356001" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="international">international</keyword> financiers and academics. His G30 peers include Paul Volcker, Mark Carney, Mario Draghi, William Dudley, Timothy Geithner, and - awkwardly - Paul Krugman and Larry Summers.
The latter two are not exactly friends with Rajan.
Back in 2005, Summers called Rajan a "Luddite" and his economic theories "misguided," when Rajan decided to be a huge bummer at former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan's retirement party and delivered a scathing critique of the U.S. financial sector.
He forecast disaster for the global economy because banks were being too risky. He also said the government was covering up real supply-side weaknesses with easy credit, and advocated instead for better educating workers, encouraging entrepreneurship, and cleaning up the financial sector to make it do more good than harm.
Krugman Feud
Rajan's rivalry with Paul Krugman grew in the aftermath of the financial crisis, when Rajan wrote a piece in Foreign Affairs magazine arguing for fiscal austerity alongside other structural changes.

While Rajan believed that America's economic woes stemmed from supply-side inefficiencies and workforce uncompetitiveness, Krugman said the problem was weak demand and the solution would be fiscal and monetary stimulus.
There's been a lot of back-and-forth between the two <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/william-k-black/krugman-paranoid_b_3748874.html">ever since</a>. (Last year Rajan called Krugman "<a href="http://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/the-declining-quality-of-public-economic-debate-by-raghuram-rajan">paranoid</a>." The saga continues.)
What's in store?
In his 15 months at the RBI, Rajan has already met many of his goals. When he joined, there were serious concerns that India might need an IMF bailout. Now, it's among the strongest of the world's emerging markets.
He focused chiefly on combatting India's rampant inflation and entrenched inflation expectations. But now that battle's been won: CPI is down to 5.5 percent, below next month's target of 8 percent, and even below the 6 percent January 2016 target.
While the rupee remains weak, the recent drop in oil prices has helped shrink India's current account deficit, which will ease the pressure on Rajan to keep interest rates high in order to attract external financing.
The next logical step for the governor is to start loosening monetary policy. He <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/rbi-likely-to-cut-rates-soon-2014-12">left interest rates unchanged</a> yesterday, but will likely start easing his tight stance in February.
And with this guy's track record, no one's going to challenge him.
