It would have been great if something more subtle was hung there to give into a Japanese extravagance. A Teppanyaki bar is just like any other bar except for the fact, instead of talking to your companion; you appreciate the heavenly meal being cooked in front of you. Chef prepared a dish of Prawn sautéed with Bok Choy, Spring Onion and Ponzu Sauce. The citrus nature of the sauce contributed to the tanginess of the prawns. It is served with Teppan Rice. Beans</h2>Beans are one of the most notorious culprits for bloating and gas because they contain two types of fiber that are very hard for us to digest, says <a href="https://www.thebloatedbellywhisperer.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tamara Duker Freuman,</a> a New York City-based registered dietitian and author of <a href="https://www.thebloatedbellywhisperer.com/book" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"The Bloated Belly Whisperer</a>."These two types of fiber are:<ul><li>Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS)</li><li><a href="https://www.insider.com/what-is-resistant-starch" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Resistant starch</a></li></ul>Both of these are types of complex carbohydrates that humans lack enzymes to digest, Freuman says. While these are objectively healthy, as they can relieve and prevent constipation, they cause a lot of gas and bloating. Since we can't digest this fiber, when it reaches our colon, gut bacteria feeds on it, thereby fermenting it and causing gas. This is because bacteria in the gut have enzymes that are able to break the bonds of carbohydrates and turn them into smaller units of carbohydrates. Energy is released in the process, and one of the byproducts of bacterial fermentation is hydrogen gas.<h3>Healthy replacements for beans </h3>Before nixing beans altogether, Freuman says try taking the enzyme alpha-galactosidase, which you can find in <a href="https://www.beanogas.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beano</a>, before eating. This enzyme can help you digest the fiber better before it gets to the colon.If that doesn't work, you can still get protein from other plan-based sources that are easier to digest, like:<ul><li>Soybeans (edamame)</li><li>Tempeh</li><li>Tofu</li></ul><h2>2. Carbonated beverages</h2>Carbonated beverages contain carbon dioxide gas. That's what makes them fizzy. But when you drink a carbonated beverage, the gas can expand in your belly, causing bloat, says Freuman.This can especially be the case in people with <a href="https://www.insider.com/do-i-have-ibs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IBS</a>, <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/functional-dyspepsia/symptoms-causes/syc-20375709" target="_blank" rel="noopener">functional dyspepsia</a>, or hypersensitive stomachs. However, everybody is different, and carbonated beverages don't cause bloating for everyone. In fact, Freuman says carbonated beverages such as seltzer actually help some of her patients who have bloating because it can induce belching which can relieve some of the built-up gas. Beer falls under this category, too. While beer isn't as fizzy as soda, it still is carbonated, says Freuman. This means that it contains that carbon dioxide gas that can expand in your stomach and cause bloating. Another factor is the sheer volume beer that people tend to consume if they want to feel the alcohol. Beer has a low alcohol content, which means you're going to need to drink more in volume if you're looking to catch a buzz. This can lead to you feeling full and bloated. Alcohol, in general, is a GI irritant, says Freuman. You may experience an upset stomach regardless of what you drink if you have a sensitive stomach. <h3>Healthy replacements for carbonated beverages </h3>There are plenty of non-carbonated beverages out there to choose from, and of course, water is always a great option for staying hydrated. If you'd like a beverage that isn't carbonated and also serves as a <a href="https://www.insider.com/natural-remedies-for-a-stomach-ache" target="_blank" rel="noopener">remedy for tummy troubles</a>, you can try:<ul><li>Peppermint tea (hot or iced)</li><li>Ginger tea (hot or iced)</li></ul>We aren't saying alcohol is necessarily healthy, but if you are looking for alcohol that is more easily digestible, Freuman says some of her patients report being better able to tolerate vodka and experience less GI symptoms with that. <h2>3. Onions</h2>Onions can cause bloating for two reasons. First, if you're prone to <a href="https://www.insider.com/home-remedies-for-acid-reflux" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acid reflux</a>, onions can contribute to this, because they have a compound that relaxes the tension of the <a href="https://www.asge.org/docs/default-source/about-asge/newsroom/doc-gerd_infographic_final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">muscle separating the stomach from the esophagus</a>. This makes reflux more likely, Freuman says. This can cause a bloated feeling in the upper belly.Alternatively, the problem could be a type of carbohydrate called fructans that are in onions. Similarly to the problem with beans, the body has trouble digesting this carbohydrate, and the bacteria in the gut ends up feeding on it, causing a buildup of gas in the colon. <h3>Healthy replacements for onions </h3>If you're looking for something with a similar flavor profile to onions that will cause less gas, Freuman recommends:<ul><li>Green onions/scallions</li><li>Shallots</li></ul><h2>4. Dairy</h2>Dairy contains lactose and about<a href="https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/lactose-intolerance#statistics" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> 65% of people worldwide are not able to fully digest lactose</a>. If you are sensitive to lactose, your body may lack an enzyme called lactase which is necessary to break down and digest lactose, says Freuman. Again, this leaves undigested food in your gut for bacteria to feast on, causing gas and bloating. People with lactose intolerance may also experience diarrhea and nausea after consuming dairy.However, it's possible that lactose isn't the problem, and it's actually the fat in dairy products that's the issue. For example, if you don't experience bloating after eating dairy products like parmesan cheese on your pasta, but you do after eating ice cream, that could be a sign that you're more sensitive to fats. In this case, take a look at how you feel after eating other non-dairy fatty foods and assess. You might find that you're actually sensitive to many foods high in fat. <h3>Healthy replacements for dairy </h3>Whether you're looking for alternatives for milk or cheeses, there is a wide variety of dairy-free products. <ul><li>Oat milk</li><li>Almond milk</li><li>Coconut milk</li><li><a href="https://www.insider.com/is-soy-bad-for-you" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Soy</a> milk</li><li>Lactose-free dairy milk</li><li><a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4586535/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hard cheese</a> such as parmesan, cheddar, or swiss, because they are lower in lactose compared to other soft cheeses. Again, this has to do with the fact that they are hard to digest, leading to bacteria in the intestine feeding on it and fermenting it, causing gas.Artificial sweeteners can cause bloating in excess, but Freuman says if you only have a packet or less, you should be fine. Additionally, people who are sensitive to fructose might find honey and agave nectar to cause problems, Freuman says. According to the <a href="https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/hereditary-fructose-intolerance#diagnosis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. National Library of Medicine</a>, 40% of people in the Western Hemisphere have some degree of fructose malabsorption, where the intestine doesn't properly digest the fructose, which can result in bloating and other GI symptoms. They'll occasionally indulge in a few apple slices, but probably wouldn't eat the whole thing in one sitting. Full-fat yogurtHarper said he also likes to buy kefir and cheeses like goat, Brie, blue, and cheddar.Meat, poultry, and fishHarper opts for marbled, fatty cuts of steak, and he eats chicken with the skin on. He said fatty fish like salmon and halibut are also favorites in his house, along with canned tuna, sardines, and shellfish.Non-animal protein sources This includes tempeh, tofu, and textured vegetable protein (TVP).Of course, many of the things on the list above make for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/processed-food-makes-us-fat-leads-to-cancer-alternatives-2019-5">healthy, unprocessed additions</a> to any diet, whether it's low-carb or not.But since the keto diet is so restrictive, Drewery said that keeping the freezer stocked with berries, eating most meals at home, and enjoying leftovers often makes it easier not to think too much about what she eats each day. "The idea that you would be counting your calories or counting your carbs for me is just a complete bore," she said. "Because, you know, I'd rather just eat."<h2>Keto isn't for everyone</h2>Many doctors and nutritionists caution that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/keto-diet-kidney-stone-gout-risk-how-to-avoid-problems-2018-7">keto diets come with risks</a>. Anyone considering going keto should talk to their doctor, since some people have medical conditions, take drugs, or have other circumstances (like a baby in the womb) that could make the diet unsafe for them.Plus, not all carbs are necessarily bad for our health. Instead, a wealth of studies has shown that people who adhere to Mediterranean diets, which feature fatty oils, fish, and nuts (like keto), but also include lots of fruit and whole grains, tend to live <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-diet-body-brain-healthiest-2017-7">some of the longest, healthiest lives</a>. What's more, the keto diet may not be much more effective for weight management than other healthy, more well-rounded eating plans. In fact, a <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2737919">roundup of studies published earlier this week</a> suggests that keto diets are "associated with less than a kilogram of additional weight loss over high-carbohydrate, low-fat strategies" when they're used long-term.To date, there hasn't been enough rigorous study of healthy people following the keto diet to know whether the high-fat plan is completely safe long-term. As a result, community-supported <keyword id="6355165" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Agriculture">agriculture</keyword> (CSA) programs are becoming the hottest new trend in healthful eating, with <a href="http://www.nal.usda.gov/afsic/pubs/csa/csa.shtml">more than 12,500 farms</a> doling out fresh produce to neighborhoods around the country.
CSAs are all about minimizing the costs of eating plant-based foods and supporting local agriculture at the same time. But what do they cost, really? And what's it like to join one? 
We chatted with Paula Lukats, who manages a CSA program at <a href="http://www.justfood.org/">Just Food</a>, a New York-based nonprofit, to help us put together the ultimate beginner's guide to CSAs.
First thing's first –– What is a CSA? 
CSAs cut middlemen like grocery stores and farmer's markets out of the picture, connecting local <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> directly with consumers. CSA members pay an annual membership fee for a weekly share in that year's crop, which in turn finances the <keyword id="6386447" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Farming">farming</keyword> (kind of like shareholders in a public corporation), and frees farmers from having to rely on outside lenders like banks. 
"(Farmers) have a better sense of who they’re growing for so they can better plan how much they grow and know that what they're growing has a home," Lukats said. "On the consumer end, you know where your food is coming from ... It's incredibly, fresh, local and grown for flavor rather than transportability."
How long do harvests last? 
Harvest cycles last from 20-24 weeks and the food is delivered for pick up once a week at a central location, like a church or YMCA.
How much food do you actually get?
Since crop size depends much on weather conditions and how many CSA members are involved, it's hard to nail down exactly how much food members actually walk away with. Smaller CSAs supply each member about 7 to 8 produce items per week and larger ones give out more like 13, Lukats said.
How much does membership cost? 
Expect to pay a few hundred dollars per year to join a CSA. In bigger <keyword id="6399501" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cities">cities</keyword> like New York, shares typically run between $450 and $650 for the season, Lukats said. Prices vary by the number of weeks the CSA lasts and the amount of food people get each week. All fees are paid in Winter and Spring, during the off-season, so that farmers get an idea of how much to plant and what it wil cost. 
"Each group is connected with one vegetable farmer, and the farm over time decides what a good share is for their farm and their members," Lukats said.
Can you split your share with someone else?
Many CSAs allow shares to be split between friends, housemates, and co-workers. Others offer half-shares to people who can't go through all the produce on their own, which provides half the amount of food or delivery every other week.
What kinds of produce do you get?
With CSA's, what you see is what you get. Depending on the growing season, your haul could include anything from a head of lettuce to a pound of potatoes, and quirkier varieties of produce, like purple carrots or bok choy, are often thrown into the mix, Lukats said. 
Are CSA's worth the risk?
In short, yes. There's always the chance a certain crop might not do well, so the farmers can't make guarantees on what will be available throughout the season, Lukats said. But farmers typically plant anywhere from 70 to 200 varieties of <keyword id="29790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="vegetables">vegetables</keyword>, and if they have a bountiful season, they're likely to share that bounty through more generous share payoffs to members, she added.
"If it is a dry year, some things might not be doing great but other things may strive," Lukats said. "The CSA is set up to minimize that risk as much as possible."

It depends. Lukats said the costs are about equivalent, though there's something to be said about the quality of a CSA produce vs. what you'll find on your grocer's shelves. 
"You can get locally produced produce for about what you’d get in the grocery store," Lukats said. "But one of the great things (about a CSA) is you might get something you might not find in the grocery store, like purple carrots, garlic scapes, pea shoots — things that really help people diversify their diets."
What if you can't afford the upfront fee? 
Lukats said a lot of CSAs offer flexible payment options to spread that fee out throughout the season. Others allow members to pay using food stamps, or have a sliding payment scale to charge consumers based on <keyword id="47201" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="income">income</keyword> and family size. The goal is to make them affordable for everyone in the <keyword id="11033" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="community">community</keyword>, she said.
"Some of the groups do fundraising to provide discounted shares," Lukats said. "They ask people to donate, and then using that to create discounted share prices for folks who need it."
What if you don't know how to cook vegetables?
"It's not a good value if you take [the food] home and feel like you don’t know what you’re doing with it," Lukats said.
To help, CSA members often have pot lucks or cooking demonstrations to share recipes, and many also take trips to the farm to see the produce being grown and ask questions or get cooking tips right from the farmer. 
<h3>Where can you find a CSA? </h3>
CSAs are scattered across the country, especially in agricultural-heavy states like New York, Wisconsin, and California. Find a CSA in your neck of the woods on <a href="http://www.localharvest.org/csa/">Local Harvest's CSA section online</a>. You can often subscribe to one directly from the website.

So –– should you join one? 
CSA benefits go far beyond your table and tummy. By cutting out the middleman, they help keep costs low for both buyers and growers. They are also a good way to support the community and increase your uptake in organic, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. Plus, the food is often higher quality than the produce at the grocery store, and you might get to try foods you would have never considered otherwise.
"It's kind of a win-win in keeping the price low," Lukats said. "It's also a connection with one farm. You get to really know them, visit the farm and ask some questions about what’s going on and really make that connection."
In the end, it's up to you. Try one out for yourself or split a share with a friend to see if it's worth the money.
