The third season of the Emmy-winning series 'The <keyword id="5224095" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="white-lotus" source="Orion">White Lotus</keyword>' is heading to Thailand, multiple sources close to the production have told 'Variety'.<br /><br />As the first two seasons of Mike <keyword id="17298" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="white" source="Orion">White</keyword>'s 'The White Lotus' were shot at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy, respectively, it's possible that Season 3 will take place at one of the luxury hotel giant's four properties in Thailand, which are located in Bangkok, <keyword id="328896" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="chiang-mai" source="Orion">Chiang Mai</keyword>, Koh Samui and the Golden Triangle.<br /><br />Thailand's Four Seasons resorts are spread across the city, country, jungle and beach, giving White plenty of settings to play with, if he so chooses.<br /><br />White had previously hinted that Season 3 may take place in Asia and focus on "death and Eastern religion and spirituality."<br /><br />"The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex," White said in a clip pegged at the end of the Season 2 finale.<br /><br />"I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. The White Lotus Season 3 will be set in Thailand

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The fifth episode of "White Lotus" brought an unexpected plot twist. </li><li>"<strong>That's Amore"</strong> appeared to foreshadow the tragic death of Tanya McQuoid. </li></ul><p>We've only got two episodes left of "The White Lotus" season two and the mysterious death(s?!) has yet to be revealed.</p><p>Well, I'd argue that Sunday's episode "That's Amore" hinted that Tanya McQuoid (played by the Emmy award-winning Jennifer Coolidge) might not be around for much longer.</p><p>When the heiress arrived at the White Lotus Sicily resort in episode one "Ciao," she took a moment to admire the view and asked if anyone had ever jumped from its scenic cliffs. Then, in episode two "Bull Elephants," her assistant Portia made a joke about euthanasia.</p><p>In "That's Amore," Quentin (one of the <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-white-lotus-hot-hookup-game-of-thrones-2022-11">random aristocrats who lured her from the resort to a palazzo in nearby Palermo</a>) took Tanya to see Madama Butterfly, a tragic Puccini opera in which the lead <em>dies</em>. There's also her general sense of recklessness that always suggests she is seconds away from a fatal accident (I was surprised she didn't die on the Vespa in episode two, honestly). </p><p>And to all that I say, good! Because to be quite honest, I'm tired of this heifer. Here's why I think Tanya deserves to be dropped into the ocean and never heard from again. </p><h1><strong><div type="image" title="Tanya White Lotus Jennifer Coolidge" height="1258" width="1920" msid="95961534" hostid="261"></div></strong></h1><h1><strong>She knows and owns her "alcoholic lunatic" tendencies, but refuses to change</strong></h1><p>To be fair, Tanya McQuoid was the most authentic character in season one. She felt like she belonged on the Haiwaan adventure because she was the series' most nuanced and entertaining example of a hot <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-white-lotus-season-2-cast-might-recognize-from-2022-10">classist mess</a>.</p><p>However, by the end of the season, it became clear that Tanya could not survive without sucking up all of the oxygen in a room. Her needs are the only ones that matter and she has no problem zooming in on what others desire, dangling them like carrots in her quest for control. </p><div type="image" title="Natasha Rothwell and Jennifer Coolidge" height="1408" width="1920" msid="95961538" hostid="261"></div><p>From Hawaii to Italy, Tanya chooses to focus on distractions and forces others to be intimate with her instead of getting to the core of what is going on and pursuing pure connections. Then she has the audacity to complain when they don't like her.</p><p>I would have empathy for her if she were actually unaware of how irritating and callous she is. But she knows. In season one episode five "The Lotus Eaters," she tells Belinda, a Black woman Lotus staff member, that she is well aware she is an "alcoholic lunatic" who drives people away, and that she has zero interest in changing. She has all the resources to get her shit together and find people who can stand her but she will not deploy them. Tanya enjoys being a victim far too much for that.</p><h1><strong>She's the ultimate Karen</strong> </h1><div type="image" title="Jennifer Coolidge with white wine" height="675" width="900" msid="95961540" hostid="261"></div><p>When requesting a psychic in season two episode three "Bull Elephants," Tanya used a racial slur for the Romani people, and did not think twice about it. She said it to the hotel manager Valentina and later again to her assistant Portia, whose objections she dismisses. </p><p>Tanya also exhibited manipulative and predatory behavior with Belinda in season one. She refused to take no for an answer when Belinda told her there were no massages available and dangled a business partnership in front of a Black woman staff member who literally could not afford to turn her down.</p><div type="image" title="Katia Gargano HBO The White Lotus Season 2 - Episode 3" height="1280" width="1920" msid="95961543" hostid="261"></div><p>This sets a precedent for Belinda to break personal and professional boundaries to make Tanya happy. The spacey villain continued that pattern by forcing Rachel, Shane, and several other hotel employees to participate in a very awkward sunset cruise in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piZlD3aaniM">season one episode three</a> "Mysterious Monkeys."</p><p>There's nothing wrong with paying people for intimacy but everyone should be aware of that being the basis of the transaction. You can't just convert your waiter into your therapist without their permission.</p><div type="image" title="Tanya Portia White Lotus" height="1280" width="1920" msid="95961546" hostid="261"></div><h1><strong>She's a terrible boss</strong> </h1><p>To be clear, I'm not exactly a fan of Portia.</p><p>But some things are unacceptable in the workplace and controlling your employee's leisure time and placing them in danger without their permission are among them. She forced Portia to stay in her hotel room and, another time, to read a magazine while Tanya slept in case she needed her.</p><p>Then she took this young employee to Palermo without fully assessing the situation. Encouraging Portia to stay at a palazzo with some randoms she just met because they complimented her corny Valentino bag is weird. </p><p>Ignoring stranger danger for yourself is one thing, but forcing your employee to go with you is twice as reckless. If Tanya doesn't end up axed, I hope she at least gets sued for emotional distress. </p><h1><strong><div type="image" title="Tom Hollander and Jennifer Coolidge on &quot;The White Lotus.&quot;" height="1280" width="1920" msid="95961549" hostid="261"></div>She's a raging misogynist</strong> </h1><p>Tanya said she hated women in season one and her relationship with her assistant Portia proves that has not changed. "I think most women are drips," she declared in episode four "In the Sandbox." "But it's not their fault. They have a lot to be depressed about. They are not fun."</p><p>Yeah, because asking random people at your hotel to open a box of your mother's ashes while they're on their honeymoon— like she did in season one— is tons of fun. </p><p>Let's not forget that Tanya ditched Belinda when Greg called her because the opportunity to connect with a man means more to her than inconveniencing a woman. </p><p>Tanya also made a rude comment about Portia's clothing and assumed she did not pack anything "cute to wear on" the trip and gave unsolicited advice on Portia's love life, encroaching on her in a way we never see Tanya do with male or male-presenting characters. </p>

And it's all going to be on a beach in bathing suits!'" Coolidge said at the roundtable.</p><p>It was the height of the pandemic by then, and she'd been stress-eating to cope with what was going on in the world, Coolidge added.</p><p>"We were like six months into COVID, and I'd been locked up in my house in New Orleans just pigging out on these vegan pizzas. A good friend and I were doing two at breakfast, two at lunch, and two at dinner," she said. "So, I was just like, 'No, I'm not doing this,' but I didn't tell Mike I wasn't doing it. I just said, 'Oh, that's so nice, Mike. God, congratulations.'"</p><p>The actress admitted that the pandemic impacted the way she viewed life: Instead of taking care of herself, she adopted a "do whatever you want" type of mindset.</p><p>"I thought we were all going to die during COVID," Coolidge said. "Just do whatever you want. Walk around naked, get arrested, whatever, it's all going to be over."</p><p>Even when discussions about the role started to get more serious on the business front, Coolidge said that she "still wasn't going to do it" until her best friend called her out on her "bullcrap."</p><p>"She knew exactly what I was doing, and she was like, 'You are an idiot. I'm not going to let you do this,'" Coolidge said.</p><p>"I think this happens to actresses a lot," Coolidge added. "You sit around and bitch your whole life that you've never been given the role of your dreams, and then when it comes, you're like, 'Yeah, I can't do it. I ate a bunch of pizza.' <ul class="summary-list"><li>Lorenzo Maraviglia is the manager of the real "White Lotus" hotel in Taormina, Sicily.</li><li>Maraviglia told Insider he struck up friendships with the cast and crew during filming.</li></ul><p>There are many elements of <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-white-lotus-hotel-sicily-things-to-know-before-trip-2023-5">"The White Lotus"</a> that are fictional: the affairs, murder plots, and the drama that the characters experience during their luxury vacation in Sicily. </p><p>But one thing that remains true to life is <a href="https://www.insider.com/jennifer-coolidge-almost-turned-down-role-in-the-white-lotus-2021-8">Jennifer Coolidge's character, Tanya McQuoid</a>, according to Lorenzo Maraviglia, the manager of <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-white-lotus-hotel-sicily-compared-tv-show-photos-2023-5">San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel,</a> in Taormina where the second season was filmed.</p><p>Coolidge and her costars lived and filmed at the five-star, luxury resort for several months in 2022. A couple of weeks after <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-white-lotus-hotel-sicily-taormina-four-seasons-review-2023-5">my visit to the hotel</a> in April 2023, I met with Maraviglia over Zoom to chat about his experience working there while the series was being filmed. He said he struck up a friendship with many of the cast and crew, including Coolidge.</p><p>"Jennifer Coolidge, the star of the show, is in real life the exact character you see on TV," Maraviglia said, referencing the obliviousness of Tanya's character that aided a <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-white-lotus-season-2-finale-tanya-death-showrunner-reaction-2022-12">series of unfortunate events at the end of the second season</a>.</p><p>Throughout the season, Tanya often believed the best in people and failed to see when she was being betrayed by her new group of friends and her husband, Greg. </p><p>Speaking <a href="https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/white-lotus-jennifer-coolidge-tanya-death-interview-1235458262/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to Variety</a> in December, Coolidge said that the show's creator, Mike White, was inspired by her "obliviousness" in real life and ended up making it "a Tanya thing."</p><p>"Mike White thinks it's very funny that I can handle big things, but a little thing will be my demise. Like, my technical inabilities with my phone or something will keep me from accomplishing something big," Coolidge said.</p><p>"These small things throw me off. It was so in line with who I am — I even heard Mike say that to somebody," she added. </p><p>Maraviglia went on to say that he was impressed with Coolidge's kindness, as she often stayed late after shooting to chat with the hotel staff. </p><p>"I have to say, the one thing I loved the most about her is that she's extremely human. She would treat a waiter the same way she would treat the producer," he said. </p><h2>From Sicily to Hollywood</h2><p>Maraviglia said he also became good friends with the show's creator, Mike White, and that he was invited to the Hollywood premiere of "The White Lotus" season two in October.</p><p>"It was incredible to be invited, to represent the hotel. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Warning: There are major spoilers ahead for season two of the HBO drama "The White Lotus." </li><li>A major character was killed off during Sunday night's season two finale.</li></ul><p>"<a href="https://www.insider.com/the-white-lotus-stars-who-played-marvel-dc-characters-2022-12">The White Lotus</a>" creator and showrunner unpacked the season two finale's big murder and revealed why it felt like an appropriate end for the character. </p><p>"I just think her dying at the hands of someone else felt too tragic," White said about the death of Tanya McQuoid (played by Jennifer Coolidge) on Sunday night's finale in a post-episode featurette. </p><p>Coolidge's wealthy and ditsy character and her husband Greg (Jon Gries) were first introduced on season one of the Emmy-winning anthology series, which premiered on HBO in 2021 and was set at the titular resort's Hawaii location.  </p><div type="image" title="Jennifer Coolidge with white wine" height="675" width="900" msid="96181515" hostid="261" sizebytes="18516"></div><p>Tanya and Greg were the only characters from the first installment to return for season two, which was set at the White Lotus resort in Sicily.</p><p>Among the new cast members was Haley Lu Richardson as Tanya's young assistant named Portia and a mysterious man named Quentin (Tom Hollander) who, with his group of friends, swiftly befriended Tanya and showed her the opulence that Italy had to offer. </p><p>Quentin's friendship with Tanya seemed too good to be true, and that was confirmed as the season progressed. By the finale, Quentin, his friends, and his "nephew" Jack (Leo Woodall) separated Tanya and Portia from each other in order to kill Tanya.</p><p>Her death, per their prenup, would result in Tanya's cheating husband Greg (who, it's heavily implied, had a relationship with Quentin a long time ago), getting her fortune. Her suspicions about their plan were confirmed when she found rope, duct tape, and a gun in the bag. </p><p>As Quentin and the other men managed to break open the door, a hysterical Tanya fired the gun multiple times, killing Quentin, Stefano Gianino, and Didier (Bruno Gouery), while one man jumped overboard to swim away and another ran. </p><div type="image" title="Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya on season two of &quot;The White Lotus.&quot;" height="1384" width="1846" msid="96181518" hostid="261" sizebytes="46856"></div><p>Tanya, free from their threat, figured she could get back to shore via a small boat attached to the yacht. </p><p>Because of the distance between her and the boat, Tanya thought she wouldn't be able to get off the yacht. She gave herself a pep talk, saying, "You got this," but slipped while trying to get over the rail of the yacht, falling to her death. "It felt like she needed to give her best fight back and that she, in a way, had some kind of victory over whoever was conspiring to get rid of her. So, it just made me laugh to think that she would take out this cabal of killers and that after she successfully does that, she just dies this derpy death. And it just felt like, that's just so Tanya."</p>
