While choosing the candidates to represent the party in 2019 elections from this state, Mamta Banerjee had decided to drop 10 sitting MPs and getting in 18 new candidates. Firstmark, TMV, and Sequoia Capital led the round, with SV Angel, Maveron, and M13 participating.</p><p>Terms of the deal are not finalized and could be subject to change. Roon and Sequoia did not respond to requests for comment.</p><p>Roon pitches itself as a "trusted guide for health" on its website. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>National Institute of Health</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>If ever there was a case of someone who didn't get the recognition she deserved, it's Rosalind Franklin.</p><p>The British-born chemist did pioneering work that led to the discovery of the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, the set of genetic instructions that tell cells how to carry out all of their normal activities.</p><p>James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins won a Nobel Prize in 1962 for discovering DNA's structure. However, Franklin died of cancer in 1958 before the prize was awarded.</p><p>Today, some say <a href="http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/rosalind-franklin-and-dna-how-wronged-was-she/">Franklin was wronged</a> by her male colleagues, while others say this view may itself be an oversimplification.</p><p>Whatever the truth, it's clear that Franklin's accomplishments have been largely overlooked.</p><h2>Franklin's early life</h2><p>The <a href="http://profiles.nlm.nih.gov/ps/retrieve/Narrative/KR/p-nid/183">Rosalind Franklin Papers</a> tell the fascinating story of Frankin's life, work, and legacy.</p><p>Rosalind Elsie Franklin was born on July 25, 1920, in London, to Ellis Franklin, a partner at Keyser's Bank, and his wife Muriel Franklin.</p><p>She was lucky enough to attend St. Paul's Girls School, one of the few at the time that emphasized careers over homemaking. There, she showed a natural aptitude for <keyword id="41551" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="science">science</keyword> and languages.</p><p>In 1938, she enrolled in Newnham College, one of two women's colleges at Cambridge University, where she studied physical chemistry. Her subsequent studies would be shaped by World War II.</p><p>Franklin graduated in 1941, and spent a year working in the laboratory of R. G. W. Norrish, a pioneer in the chemistry of light. The following year, she embarked on a PhD related to the war effort. She worked for the British Coal Utilisation Research Association, a nonprofit group promoting coal research, studying the microscopic structures of different coals and carbons.</p><p>After finishing her PhD, Franklin landed a job in the lab of French engineer Jacques Mering at the Laboratoire Central des Services Chimique de l'Etat in Paris. There, she learned how to image carbon-based compounds using a technique called <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1186895/">X-ray crystallography</a> - <span>crystallizing proteins and other compounds and imaging them using X-rays -</span> which she'd become an expert in.</p><p>In fact, her X-ray images would play a crucial role in the discovery of DNA's structure.</p><h2>'Photograph 51' and the structure of DNA</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.gettyimages.com/search/photographer?photographer=SCIENCE+SOURCE&amp;excludenudity=true&amp;phrase=rosalind+franklin+dna&amp;sort=best">SCIENCE SOURCE</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Franklin went back to England in 1950 to pursue a fellowship in the lab of a biophysicist named John Randall at King's College London.</p><p>Though Randall originally wanted her to build up the lab's work on crystalizing and imaging proteins, Maurice Wilkins, the assistant lab chief, suggested that she work on DNA.</p><p><span style="background-color: #ffffff;">Wilkins was planning to work together with Franklin, but a misunderstanding turned their <a href="http://www.chemheritage.org/discover/online-resources/chemistry-in-history/themes/biomolecules/dna/watson-crick-wilkins-franklin.aspx">relationship sour</a>.</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #ffffff;">Instead, Franklin worked with graduate student Raym</span>ond Gosling to take X-ray images of DNA. They discoverd two fo<span style="background-color: #ffffff;">rms <span>of DNA</span>,</span> a "we<span style="background-color: #ffffff;">t" form and a "dry" form. The wet form appeared to have a helix-shaped structure, like a spiral staircase, but the dry form didn't, so Franklin spent a year trying to disco</span>ver which structure was correct.</p><p>Meanwhile, the British biologist Francis Crick and American biologist James Watson were developing a theoretical model of DNA at the University of Camridge's Cavendish Laboratory. In January 1953 Wilkins showed them one of Franklin's X-ray images of DNA, now known simply as "<a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/DNA-photograph.html">Photograph 51</a>," as well as a summary of unpublished research which she had submitted to the Medical Research Council.</p><p>Watson and Crick published the structure of DNA that April <a href="http://www.nature.com/nature/dna50/watsoncrick.pdf">in the journal Nature</a>. They never told Franklin they had seen her photograph, but Crick later admitted she was only a few steps away from figuring it out.</p><p>Franklin and Gosling published X-ray findings in the same issue of the same journal, but the credit went to Watson, Crick, and Wilkins.</p><h2>An unfair portrayal</h2><p>Franklin ended up transferring to work in the lab of J. D. Bernal at Birkbeck College, where she studied the structure of plant viruses, especially tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and poliovirus. She made detailed X-ray images of the viruses, and her work was recognized by the Royal Institution in 1956.</p><p>That same year, she was <span style="background-color: #ffffff;">diagnozed with ovarian cancer. She underwent a number of surgeries and other treatments, but the treatments only worked temporarily, a</span>nd she died on April 16, 1958, at the age of 37.</p><p>Watson published his memoir, "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Double-Helix-Personal-Discovery-Structure/dp/074321630X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1447179450&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=double+helix">The Double Helix</a>," in 1968, depicting Franklin (whom he referred to derogatorily as "Rosy," <a href="http://www.nbcnews.com/id/39423795/ns/technology_and_science-science/t/lost-letters-reveal-twists-discovery-double-helix/#.VkIv-q6rRhE">a nickname she hated</a>) as bad-tempered and incompe<span style="background-color: #ffffff;">te</span>nt. Alcindor hit back: "I was quoting you directly from your interview with Sean Hannity."</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</li></ul><p>Yamiche Alcindor, a PBS NewsHour reporter with extensive experience covering the White House, confronted President Donald Trump with his own statements on Sunday and provoked a hostile response that critics said had racist undertones. </p><p>Trump warned Alcindor to "be nice" and not "be threatening," but she refused to cave and continued her line of questioning. Praise for her was trending on Twitter right after the exchange.</p><p>Alcindor kicked off her questioning by asking Trump about earlier statements he made to Fox News opinion commentator and longtime ally Sean Hannity. Specifically, he suggested to Hannity that some states may not need as much medical equipment as they've requested to fight the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus within the US.</p><p>"I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators," Trump told Hannity on his program Thursday night. "You know, you go into major hospitals sometimes and they'll have two ventilators. Now all of a sudden they're saying, 'Can we order 30,000 ventilators?'"</p><p>Referring to Trump's remarks, Alcindor addressed the president and said, "You've said repeatedly that you think that some of the equipment that governors are requesting, they don't actually need. You said New York might not need 30,000-"</p><p>"I did not say that. I didn't say that," Trump interjected.</p><p>"You said it on Sean Hannity's Fox News [show], you said that you might-" Alcindor said.</p><p>"Come on, come on," Trump said, cutting her off. "You know, why don't you people act - why don't you act in a little more positive … it's always get you, get you, get you."</p><p>Alcindor tried to redirect the president's attention to her question, but he continued, "And you know what, that's why nobody trusts the media anymore."</p><p>"My question to you is, how is that going to impact-" Alcindor tried, before Trump again cut her off.</p><p>"Excuse me, you didn't hear me," the president said. "That's why you used to work for The Times and now you work for somebody else. Look, let me tell you something. Be nice. Don't be threatening."</p><p>Alcindor pressed on, asking Trump how his comments would impact how the federal government fills states' orders for ventilators and masks as they battle the virus, which the World Health Organzation declared a pandemic earlier this month.</p><p>"We're producing tremendous numbers of ventilators," Trump insisted. "We're doing a great job on it. We have everybody in the White House working on it. We have -everybody in the country is working on it one way or another."</p><p>Then, in what appeared to be an attempt to clarify his remarks to Hannity, Trump claimed that the federal government sent "thousands of generators" to New York but that the state never distributed them.</p><p>"I hope they distributed them now," Trump said. "But maybe they didn't need them so badly. But just so you know, we're all you me everybody we're all on the same team. When journalists get up - and you're a journalist, a fine journalist - when journalists get up and ask questions that are so threatening-"</p><p>Alcindor hit back, "I was quoting you directly from your interview with Sean Hannity."</p><p><strong>Watch the exchange below:</strong></p><p>New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Friday that Trump's suggestion was "incorrect and grossly uninformed," and that the ventilators are being stored to prepare for when the state's medical facilities exceed their capacity.</p><p>"Of course we didn't" distribute them, Cuomo said. "That's the whole point. The hospitals don't need them yet. The hospitals aren't at their apex. The hospitals have enough ventilators today, but their numbers are going up."</p><p>Alcindor won praise and admiration for how she handled her questioning of Trump on Sunday. The hashtags #Yamiche and #WeLoveYamiche began trending on Twitter almost immediately after her exchange with the president.</p><p>Alcindor also addressed the moment after the fact.</p><p>"President Trump today at the White House said to me: 'Be nice. Don't be threatening,'" she <a href="https://twitter.com/Yamiche/status/1244413018026491905" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote on Twitter</a>. "I'm not the first human being, woman, black person or journalist to be told that while doing a job. My take: Be steady. Stay focused. Remember your purpose.
