Ever since news reports of Sonu Sood arranging transportation for migrant workers to their hometowns became public, the actor's social media timeline has been flooded with requests from people stuck in various corners of the country urging him to send them home amid coronavirus lockdown.
Sood’s latest action to provide help to migrant workers has gathered appreciation from thousands of people including Union Minister Smriti Irani and Punjab CM Amarinder Singh.
Sonu Sood, is one of the handful actors in Bollywood who started their career from scratch. Sood was born in Moga Punjab on 30 July 1973. His mother was a teacher whereas father had a textile business, according to Mumbai Mirror.
He developed interest in acting after he started participating in modelling events in his college — Yeshwantrao Chavan — in Nagpur. He came to Mumbai after finishing his graduation in 1990s to become an actor. However, he wanted to take small steps and hence he started modelling in Mumbai.
Just like thousands of people, Sood used to drop his photograph to casting directors in film studios. He bagged his first film in 1999, when director Bharathi offered him a role in Kallazhagar.
Sood is also famous for his love story. Sood has been married to Sonali for about 23 years now. He fell in love at a young age — way before his acting career began.
Apart from being a model and actor, Sood is also a film producer. Sood, who is reportedly worth $17 million, opened his production house Shakti Sagar productions in 2016.
Moreover, he also has a family owned- hotel named Shakti Sagar near Iskcon in Juhu Mumbai. He recently offered to the local authorities for the use of paramedical forces fighting coronavirus.
And now, Sood has become the messiah of thousands of workers in India. He is on a mission to send most migrants — who are walking barefoot for thousands of miles to their village — home.
