The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in a meeting today announced reopening of hotels in the national capital. The authorities said that the weekly markets would also reopen on a trial basis. However, the gymnasiums and yoga centres will remain closed. A decision on this will be taken at a later stage by the state disaster management authority.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi and 16 others that included the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain and other top officials.

Hotels, gyms and yoga centres have remained closed for more than 5 months now. The closure of the businesses for over the past months since the beginning of the lockdown has destroyed the finances of the businesses all over the country and left many workers fighting for survival.

Earlier, a similar proposal by the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government cabinet was rejected by the LG Anil Baijal citing the fragile COVID situation in Delhi. However, since then, the coronavirus situation in Delhi has improved widely. The recovery rate in the national capital stood at 90.11% as on August 18, said the government health bulletin, while the case positivity rate was at 6.77%.
