  • India records over 1,79,000 fresh COVID-19 cases and 146 deaths in the last 24 hours.
  • The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 4,033 cases.

India registered a massive surge in the daily tally of COVID-19 cases, seeing a jump to 1,79,000 new cases, 12.5% higher than the previous day. Around 146 people succumbed to COVID-19 in the last one day, revealed the Union Health Ministry on Monday.

Currently, the active caseload of the country stands at 7,23,619 cases, which is 1,33,008 more than yesterday.

Around 46,569 people have been recovered so far in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate also stands at 96.62%, according to the data by the Union Health Ministry.

The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 4,033 cases reported in 23 states with Maharashtra remaining to be the worst-hit state with 1,126 Omicron cases, followed by Delhi with 529 cases.

Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate currently stands at 13.29%, and weekly positivity rate climbed to 7.92% as the country is witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases.

India has inoculated 29,60,975 COVID-19 vaccination doses in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to more than 151 crore COVID-19 doses so far.
