While Indian women are already making strides in the Air Force, flying fighter jets and as officers in the Navy, the Indian army has started an online registration for recruiting women in military police as soldiers, aiming to fill nearly100 vacancies.
Soon after General Bipin Rawat took over the charge as the Army Chief, he raised the matter for approval from the Defence Ministry.

Once the registration of candidates is over, a cut off list will be generated for further rounds of selection, according to the official notification.
So far the Indian army recruited women only as officers and not as soldiers, making this move significant.
The Indian army has put it out on its official website (joinindianarmy.nic.in.) notifying openings for the post of Soldier General Duty. The application process starts today, and will end on 8 June, 2019.

Separately, the Defence Ministry has been taking necessary initiatives to boost women empowerment. Recently, the Indian government
announced that the women officers can get permanent commissions in the armed forces.
