The past year has been a wild year for cryptocurrencies. And, it has resulted in seven more crypto billionaires in the world as compared to last year. The Forbes crypto billionaire’s list has expanded by 58% featuring a total of 19 individuals.
Amid all the hype around non-fungible tokens (NFT), metaverse, decentralised finance, and blockchain gaming, new names have emerged as the biggest money makers within the crypto ecosystem.
New crypto billionaires
Newcomers to cross the $1 billion mark include crypto exchange FTX co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) Gary Wang worth $5.6 billion, web3 company Alchemy co-founders Nikil Viswanathan and Joseph Lau, as well as OpenSea NFT marketplace co-founders Devin Finzer and Alex Atallah worth $2.2 billion apiece.
FTX CEO Sam-Bankman Fried plans to giveaway his fortune
Sam-Bankman Fried, CEO of FTX, is the richest crypto billionaire — second only to Binance CEO Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao. But, he has no plans to hoard his gains.
Fried has declared that his mission is to give away this entire fortune over the span of his lifetime. He owns more than half of his company and more than $7 billion worth of FTT, FTX’s native token.
Binance’s Changpeng Zhao is the richest crypto billionaire
Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, the CEO of crypto exchange Binance, continues to remain the richest crypto billionaire in the world. According to Forbes, Zhao owns at least 70% of the company — a company that dominated two-thirds of trading volumes on centralised exchanges last year, generating an estimated $16 billion in revenue.
In addition to Binance, Zhao has his reserves of Bitcoin and the Binance token, BNB.
